Meet Hercules!

I pondered putting this on the 'black cat love' thread but decided to start a topic for him on his own instead. Meet Hercules. Gorgeous black kitten who has been adopted by my next door neighbour taking their cat count to 4. He settled in purfectly... bombing round the house exploring, not phased by people and is really friendly. The other cats don't seem bothered by him at all. Next to my own kittens he will be the most pampered cats in the road!
Sadly his start in life was not good and at least a couple of his 9 lives have been used up. He was a rescue kitten, taken in last week having been found dumped in a hedge, gaffer taped into a small cardboard box so he could not get out, there was barely enough room for him to move in the box. If being taped into a box and discarded like rubbish is not bad enough, when he was released from the box it was immediately aparent all was not well with his ears. In the vet's opinion it would appear his previous owner had or allowed somebody to cut a significant part of his outer ear lobes off with scissors.
I can't understand what sort of cretin would do this to any animal. Even if it had happened by 'accident' say a child playing with scissors, why not take him to the vet rather than tape him inside a box and dispose of him like rubbish. Being a powerfully build goateed director I would love to have 10 minutes with whoever did it and see how they like having their ears cut.

Poor little critter!!
Not making sense of the ears though? The light edges are where they have been cut I assume? Though they don't look like they been cut by a non surgical procedure or am I looking at the wrong part?
Either way he is cute as and very happy too see he's got a good home now

Thats right Bex, its the outer edge of the ear lobe where they are white not the bit closest to his head. The other ear is worse, from some angles he almost looks normal. I am cat sitting him next week so I will take another picture if he sits still long enough. Not making sense of the ears though? The light edges are where they have been cut I assume? Don't get me wrong, I know how sick people can be but I can't fathom how the base of that right ear was cut on a conscious cat yet still look so intact and actually neat. The top of the ear possibly. Ears are actually quite tough to cut (even under GA). I guess I'm just hoping the vet was wrong as it doesn't bare thinking about else

Funnily enough I did suggest chopper but was overruled. I also suggested that the dodgy ears meant he came pre-'battle scared' and would look tougher in front of the other cats. This was rejected too. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_%22Chopper%22_Re...
