I currently own:
1991 Ex-MoD FFR 110 200tdi.
1986 Ex-MoD NA 90.
1968 Series 2A 88.
1966 Ex-MoD 2A 88.
1956 Ex-MoD 86.
Have been in Land Rovers many years, repairs, restos etc etc, member of various clubs.
Anybody here want to discuss Series 1 Landys? Post photos, share experiences?
I'll kick off with this, reposted from 'Show us your LR' This is my baby, of all the LRs that come and go, this one gets the most attention, no expense spared, time is no object when it comes to her, everything as original as it can be, apart from new parts when needed. She ain't worth much considering prices at the moment for 80s etc, but she's mine, I love her, for better for worse, in sickness and in health, for richer for poorer...

I have currently got a Series 1 107".
It's an interesting old thing and pretty useful if a bit difficult to drive with the long wheelbase and Ark Royal turning circle.
I need some new tyres and I am a bit confised as to what the original size fitted to the 107 was. Was it 650-16? And if so any recommendations?

I love 107s, the turning circle though yes, you 'helm' a 107 rather than drive it eh?
The original fitment tyres would have been Avon 7.00 x 16 Traction Mileage, these tyres were available from a firm called 'Vintage tyres' but it seems their stock has run out. Probably the nearest you can get will be something like Avon Rangemasters in 7.00 x 16, they're expensive, but then the ATMs were 185 quid exc vat apiece when they were last available. It would look nice on any SATs or ATs in 7.00 x 16 I reckon. 6.50 might look a bit skinny on a 107?
What is the 107, a truck cab? I love those old quirky cars and I feel the prices should be higher seeing as there aren't may about now. Feel free to post a pic.

That is a lovely Land Rover! Congrats on getting that it's a beauty, getting rare the 107 but very quirky and delightful, love that grey colour which I'm assuming is the original grey that a lot came with, impressed with that, wish I owned it, is it me or is it normal to want to own every one that you see?Best wishes and thanks for joining this thread and sharing the pic!

All the lads and girls who go off-roading in your hi-tech machines, when your ETC and other gismos find you bogged down and unable to move, look around for one of these, soon come and tow you out, no issues!
Seriously though, these old girls require more driver input/intuition when off-road, and a serious skill-set is built that perhaps you may not build as quickly in the more hi-tech machines.
Series 1 LRs really are the ducks' guts, no other vehicle drives like them!

I have to admit to really liking the look of these early Land Rovers and the atmosphere that seems to surround them. I work in a garage that has restored a couple of these Mk1s and I have done the books on the restorations and the ordering, which can be quite taxing although parts are pretty available if you know where to look, they can work out very expensive, restoration can run well into the tens of thousands, they are a good investment though and prices are very bouyant. Also the men and women who own these are very passionate about them, as the OP said they do have a funny, quirky charm of there own, they're very cute looking especially the small ones. I know a few women who have one as I live in a rural area and they seem to have a sexiness about them, don't know why, certainly the women I know who have one tend to get admiring glances from men on a regular basis, mind you they are attractive too!

I have the use of a 1958 88" Series One, presently in the garage because the seals have failed in the Girling CB brake master cylinder. When running it gets used every week off-road working on a wooded hillside often towing a sankey trailer.
I've been using the 88" while my Bowler is being rebuilt - driving it takes me back to my early experiences green laning in a different 1957 88" diesel Series One.

Would you be interested in the correct aluminium grille panel for your 86"?
My 1958 88" presently has this grille...I've sourced a steel one which is in need of repair, once fitted the aluminium one will need a home. The grille is in good condition but has been repaired on the inside sections with TIG-welded inserts.
