Has anyone got recent experience of applying to Barclays recently as I'm a little confused.

I've done a joint application and have the screen that shows a green tick and a thank you for the application.

Underneath it then says We're now in the process of setting up your account.

Then there is the what happens next, it talks about receiving an SMS text to let us know when the account is open.

The says and this is what's confusing me, we will write to you in the next 3-5 days with the results, if your application was successful we will send you a welcome pack.

Then talks about needing a sample signature and then it says you will receive your debit cards in the next 3-5 days.

Further down we have a button to continue switching

There are links to pdf's called Welcome to Your new account.

So a daft question, does that mean the application has been successful?

No, it means you've successfully got to the starting line. But once you've achieved that, the application will only fail if they find something wrong. Opening a current account for a new customer is not exactly high risk for the bank - unless and until you are using any overdraft facility. Have you got as far as requesting/discussing that yet?

No we don't need an overdraft facility. I guess I was surprised that in this day and age where you get instant decisions, that it didn't say yes or no.

Maybe they're just checking you out electronically rather than going through all that "show us your passport" nonsense.
