That 1600 really is a project.

I could barely see the engine when I first looked, painted in it's rust camouflage scheme, biggrin

Are they kidding with the trailer hitch??laughlaughlaugh

What would one possibly need to tow so badly that you would resort to that?

I believe the red S4 Vixen restored by Ian Bannister had a removal tow bar. Pretty sure this car now lives down in deepest Sussex.

At least with the number plate there you'll be able to do a HPI check.

Easy enough to apply for a new logbook too, just need to get the chassis number which by the looks of it would have to come from the factory records as I doubt it's still readable on the chassis.

People have done it with Minis with a whole let less to go on than that.

Am I going senile? I can't see where it says no chassis plate or log book. Chassis plate seems to be in the 5th picky

It might not be readable but it certainly looks like an old TVR chassis plate to me and is located where you would expect to find it.

just did a double check and , your right!
I had missed that picture of the bulkhead...certainly looks like the chassis plate still fixed to the bulkhead then....I must be getting lazy..
Just not what I was lead to beleive the other day!

Or you could rescue this one they keep appearing and you get a complete steering wheel with this one its great to see that so many cars keep appearing testament to the laziness of the scrap merchants I think the fact that maybe they could not crush them like a metal car to get the steel out put them off its rather cool that the rare car in 10 years time will still be rare but just not quite as rare hehe

Might be a good project for Fat Rat as being sold by Fat Lad now that a coincidence http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

Why has the yellow 3000M got a Triumph gearbox?

The 1600 is a quite early M as it is running the very early bonnet frame and a dynamo...the green chassis plate denotes it as early and 'Vixen' fluid plate too.
The Yellow 'Triumph' gear box is a Standard Overdrive gearbox.

I would respectfully suggest the owner has got the description wrong. Even if you could mate a Triumph gearbox to an Essex engine - why would you?

He is just mixing his words in that the Laycock overdrive box fitted to a TVR has a version that also fits to a Triumph (do not ask me which/what Triumph and the nuances of the Triumph boxes).
BUT the TVR has OD several versions fitted the Essex engine, firstly the Tuscan V6, mated to the Jaguar diff, the the M mated to the Triumph 3.45 (I think that most of the factory blurb relates to cars with the 3,45 diff right up to 1980 ..not 100% sure with that BUT hey I'm going to go into my loft and read up on it).
