Hi,

Just brought a second hand Monaro 2004 LS1. Drives brilliantly and could not be happier! Haven't used the radio once since buying it!

My only issue is with power! Like i do with all my cars i took it down to SRR to make sure every thing is ok and to get an idea of bhp and torque.
The spec engine wise is Wortec Focus pack from Monkfish.

It made 368bhp at the flywheel and 297 at the wheels.

Having a look at Monkfish website this seems to be nearly 50 bhp down on what they say the focus pack should produce.

The fuelling etc is spot on and it pulls like a train!

The 14.9 mpg is well worth it!

For reference:

"This pac consists of an engine management system re-map., cat back exhaust, cold air intake modification, MAF pipe, larger MAF, performance air filter, headers (tubular exhaust manifolds), 100 cell CAT pipes, O2 sensor extension loom, sensor pipes and clutch pipe support bracket."

I'll let others comment on whether you are where you should be, but check out spark plugs/leads/etc. as they can make a difference.

That does sound a bit light. Mine is near standard with the only performance mods being cat-back and CAI, it's not been mapped yet to make the most of them and remove the shocking standard tune (though about to be), and my mate in his 200bhp Gen2 Audi TT gives me a very hard time and takes great delight in reminding me every time I see him and I do wonder exactly how much power mine is putting down. It's only supposed to be 333ish stock and I know it's a heavy car, but it's still disappointing when he's glued resolutely to my bumper, even if he is enjoying driving through a wall of noise.
2004MY CV8 btw

Welcome to the site. smile Pop up the graphs and AFR plot, and someone may be able to point you towards the problem.smile

When was the air filter last cleaned? When was the car last serviced?

Let's have some pictures of your car too. wink

Totally stock its more like 275 odd IIRC.
Close on 300rwhp isnt bad. In Oz they always used to say 230rwkw for LS1 which isnt much over 300.

Check your air filter is it clean?

But being "down" a few BHP isnt terrible.

You need full set of headers and proper intake if you want more.
TBH dont bother. If it drives fine whats the point in a number?

If you need x bhp for some reason then build to spec.

Alternately go to a hub dyno and get a number more like 350rwhp if thats all you need to see..

I took the air filter out and it was fairly dirty so have ordered a new replacement. Will also order new plugs whilst I'm at it.

For the work its had, headers, sports cats etc from the focus pack i was just expecting a lot more! This is the whole point of putting my cars on the rolling road to make sure they are running as they are supposed to! If i had spent the £3699 for the focus pack i would be a little pissed!

I m just looking at the original invoice from Monkfish and the price was £3,699 back in 2008 when the work was carried out. Have the changed the spec of the pack at all does any one know?

I assume the 296 is at the wheels. That's not too bad really, although perhaps a little on what you'd expect from a focus pack car.

Is ~11.8 AFR standard for MF NA cars?

Good for ordering plugs, but also consider leads if you don't know they have ever/vaguely recently...mine was a bit down on power when I first got it and I think plugs/leads is what sorted it.

AFR is also too rich really. Cleaner filter might help. 99% of the time its irrelevant as you will be running in closed loop.

+1 always change the leads if they are still standard

That's a good idea. An individual dyno result is practically worthless unless its a before/after session..
Has the pack just been fitted do you know.
