He tells me a new Command head unit is £2500 from Mercedes and so what do I want to do about it as the dealer he bought it from has given him the big fk Off tablet.

Yes, that's right, the car was auctioned, a dealer bought it, the dealer sold it, I owe him compensation.
Refer him to Arkell v. Pressdram 1971
This would be my suggestion.

Does his letter have his address on it? Is he far away? If hes over an hour's drive hes unlikely to make the trip as it would not be worth his time.

I'd not reply to anything, and wait for the next more passive-aggressive letter to appear from him, hopefully with threats of lawyers and county courts, getting his dad to beat your dad up etc. etc. Then just tell him to fk off.

You make a fair point, you can never know how far some of these people are going to go.

At something like this i make the assumption that the person on the other end knows full well they don't have a leg to stand on and are just chancing their arm.

I think you should at least offer him some sort of compromise.

A hands free kit would be a nice gesture and the one below should do the trick:

Soooooo, here we are a couple of months later and I get a letter from the latest owner telling me that the DVD player has stopped working and that the telephone has never worked.
That didn't because the optional sim card thingy & phone wasn't fitted.

Laughing so hard it hurts....

Troll them - Tell him you removed them before putting into auction and got a really good price off Ebay.

Maybe I'm missing something, but it sounds like there's a Data Protection breach here.

Your transaction was with the dealer. Not his buyer. How has he made contact?

Either way, I'd be ignoring him.

Guessing the dealer just spun it round with the OP's details still on the V5.

Send him a reply that states your shock and disbelief that it's still on the road as the last time you saw it, it looked like this;

This.

It would be ace to say 'the telephone stopped working when I rolled the car into a river, I suspect they spent the money on a new roof rather than the COMMAND unit'

Did anything ever come of this? I was hoping the guy was going to try again with some comical second attempt.
