I am really drawing a blank. I am usually pretty good at helping others with my views but am agonising over my own. Am getting a American Walnut counter put into my tiny cottage kitchen (period cottage with exposed beams etc etc if that helps guide your view). The wood is darkish but the kitchen still has enough light. The cupboard are currently a vintage light green kind of colour but we are probably going to make them a dirty white, or something similar.

The problem now is what oven/hob do I put? I have a range of about 3-4 different manufacturers, but cant decide on appliance colour.

So far am down to 2 options, a silver/glass hob and a white/glass oven, or a black hob and a brown oven. (my partner doesn’t want all black, hence the brown).

Views much appreciated.

I matched stuff to the hob - we went induction which was black. Except for freestanding stainless fridge. So black sink, microwave, coffee machine, oven.

Mounted in iroko, looks good.

Gas or induction hob?

I have a black induction bob (with silver edges) over a silver oven (with black glass door); looks great.

induction hob, will look a lot cleaner and modern than the older electric one with solid plates and dials i now have.

there is a silver effect siemens hob and a black miele, just not sure what colour scheme will work, am still stuck. the specific oven model i want comes in brown or the white silver (or black).

If you're any good with Photoshop, take a photo of the kitchen, then find photos of the proposed apppliances online, scale/tweak and superimpose. Another option is make mockups, then stand back and squint!

I chose Siemens because of the style/design, and of course they are more likely to 'fit' together if you have the same make rather than two makes.

There is mine in various states of completion. Iroko worktop which is probably similarish to walnut, a touch lighter perhaps. I'm glad I went with Black.

Thanks for the additional tips and also thanks Pheo for the pics, the black appliances and Iroko top looks really great, they work for sure, very impressed.

I think I am slightly leaning towards the black hob now with brown oven. It should look great, plus I can get a hob and oven from the same manufacturer, which might have niggled on me if I go for the other combo as they would be different makes. I have a feeling I am not the only one who wants stuff from the same manufacturer. I am sure some people don’t care and that’s totally cool

Is the Siemens oven a 'pyroclean' one (don't see it on the specs anywhere)? We have two similar looking ones though they might be IQ500/600 models and the pyroclean feature is really useful. The OH worked for Siemens at the time so we got a huge discount, glad we got the feature though.

Hi yes it is pyrolytic for sure. There is a place to expand the spec part when you get to the page for the overn. I know its lazy having pyrolytic, but because we didnt use the grill part too much on our last oven,it got messy and burned/smoked a lot due to fat from the various roasts. The smoke was a pain and having to clean with Oven Pride was a pain too. You never got it clean enough and plus having the acid burn you on the clothes and skin was just annoying and a total ball-ache.

I guess maybe having IQ700 is a bit over the top but I can afford it this time and I want to be able to experiment with different ways of cooking, plus it's about £500 cheaper than the Miele one I was going to buy.

If Pyrolytic is all it's cracked up to be, then in my book it is more than worth it.

The OH has been doing ours today and as usual they come out like new. We just make sure we remove anything like wine, chocolate, etc from the kitchen as it does get quite hot when running the clean. It only leaves the shelves to clean which she puts into a bag with cleaner, so they just need a rinse when done (I say this like I do it...but I'm just aware of what happens wink ).
