So I'm wondering what to go and see and was hoping to do some of the following in the general area, so far i've got the below:

_Travel_: San fran - do the city, bridge, Alcatraz etc. Over to Yosemite park, Death valley down to the Grand Canyon.. Where else should i be visiting on route / in this general area?

Ideally id like a fun hire car, have seen that the Chev Corvette is up for rental for that period for $1k - doesnt strike me as being too bad, any other ideas on this - mustangs seem a bit cliche and underpowered? Where did you rent from and what was your experience like?

_Activities_: Heli ride around the canyon. Fancy shooting some big, fully auto guns - anyone know of any such places in that area? Maybe go see some trophy truck, bball game action - again where ?

I'd appreciate some other ideas / must see's !

There are loads of threads on this, so do a search and you'll get so much info!

Will you have to get back to SF, or are you flying out from elsewhere?

Mustang's are everywhere in Cali, and it's so easy to spot the tourists. Maybe try the Penske Mustang from Hertz? The C6 Corvettes are getting on a bit now, but are still good fun.

Yosemite is an amazing place, and i'd try and spend a good few days there, rather than just passing through if you can. Get out an do a few walks too. Many of them are easy and not very long at all. Sentinel Dome is a good one.

Between Yosemite and DV is Mono lake which is definitely worth a stop, and Devils Postpile.

Don't underestimate the size of DV either. It's huge. Everything is very far apart. It can take hours to get to certain places!

If you stop in Vegas then you can go and drive a Nascar or Indycar if you get lucky with days.

Do you have to get back to SF?

Book Yosemite early! Like really early depending on season. We stayed in a tent cabin at curry village - really excellent way to stay in Yosemite valley.

If so Grand Canyon is a hell of a long drive there and back in that much time. I believe Grand Canyon is about 3-400 miles past Vegas which is around 400 from Yosemite valley to start with; there may be a more direct route however.

If you don't have to go back, definitely go play in Vegas. No place like it smile

We spent a week driving Vegas - Death Valley - Mammoth - Yosemite - Lake Tahoe - San Francisco (did 4 days in Vegas and 4 days in SF at either end) Think its a bit ambitious to do San Fran to Vegas and back in a week unless you want to spend most of the time driving.

As previously said, a couple of days needed in Yosemite, (worth driving up to Glacier Point to see sunset), a couple of nights in Mammoth, a night in Death Valley (sunset again). Wouldn't bother with Lake Tahoe, was just a poor mans Vegas when we were there.
