Hello all,

Just had a full service done by my local indy. Bought all the parts myself so I know they were genuine.

I also had all the belts changed too in hope to remove an annoying squeaking noise from the engine bay. The squeak is now gone but in its place is a horrible sort of "low" squeak coming from the engine now. The indy sprayed some WD40 on one of the pulleys and the sound went away for a week but now it's back in full force. He said it may be the alternator pulley?

Over the last few days though I've noticed the car struggle in terms of performance, it seems very jumpy and unstable. Also, especially in the morning when starting the car it struggles to fire up. It manages everytime but it's the kind of experience you get when trying to start a poor battery. Ticks over a few times then boom, switches on. However, after the first start in the morning the car starts up a bit better afterwards, still strains a little b it but not so much.

Would this be alternator/battery related? Or am I looking at something a lot more annoying?

BUMP!

So today the car completely died on me, now the engine shows no sign of life. The internal lights and all still work - Wipers became very slow but after trying to jump start the car twice, front end and back end the wipers went back to normal but still no luck starting the car.

The car simply clicks once when the car turns over and thats it. No idea what the issue is, can anyone help at all please?

Thanks!!

How old is the battery and is it being charged by the alternator?

Remove and bench charge battery, or replace, test alternator output.

AA Chap popped down - Brilliant guy I must say.

He knocked on the Starter, Charged the battery properly, reset the battery, tried it all - Still no luck so he advised me that the starter motor is completely shot. Battery is now showing correct voltage, solenoid is kicking in but still no luck with the engine.

So, being towed to local indy tomorrow- Any ideas of how much I'm looking at to get the starter changed?

Euro Car Parts do a thing where if you give them your old one, they'll only charge you 70/80 for the motor, otherwise its like 170.
