Unfortunately any heavily pearled (or silvered) colour will not touch-in to produce a perfect colour match.

Think of metallic particles as tiny mirrors and pearl particles as tiny coloured mirrored half tubes .....

When paint is sprayed the metallic and/or pearl particles are applied and suspended within a very thin layer of paint. In this thin layer the metallic/pearl particles all lay (position themselves) correctly. They act as they should - the mirrored surfaces reflect the light and it's this reflected light that makes silver paint appear silver and pearl appear pearl.
When you touch-in it's impossible to replicate the thin layer that spraying gives. The metallic and/or pearl particles sink in the thick layer of paint. As they have sunk the reflective qualities that the metallic/pearl particles should have had are lost - they can't reflect light and sadly the touch-in appears darker/greyer.

In short the colour you obtained may have been absolutely spot on if sprayed - but the method of application when touching-in doesn't suit the paint.

Take the paint code to any good body shop - they will make you up a proper match for about a tenner

pb450, I'm in the same situation, after R2846 for a Curb. Please let me know how you get on. The only place I've found so far is eBay.

I'm intending to try my local Halfords after recommendation from a mate on here. This may not happen quickly but I'll keep you posted as and when I do.

Glenn, all you say makes perfect sense and I recall in the past how often I've found touch-ups to be generally darker than original. In this instance though, my eBay purchase was several shades lighter. Think I'll contact the seller as he was a decent guy.

Well I tried Halfords today and was surprised to find their computer understood the paint code. It thought it was Firemist Blue though, which interestingly was the same colour the sheet of paper I got from a spray shop said after colour matching it with a spectrometer. I've sprayed some on a spare metal bar I have lying around in the garage and it looks like a pretty good match. I'm stunned.

You were lucky. When I took them the Starmist Blue code (one of the most common Chim colours), they failed.

I'm currently in touch with the eBay man about the mismatch. Top bloke and promises to get it right.

Will know after the weekend how it works out.

Well the halfords stuff worked out ok. The colour match is excellent however the overall finish was let down by the ineptitude of the user (me) and the lacquer, which again might well be user error.

No apologies for bumping an old thread.

Well the ebay man has come up trumps! He was more than happy to research Pearl Blue further and came up with the startling fact that it's a Roll Royce colour - Peacock Blue.

I waited with anticipation and a new touch-up pot duly arrived in the post. Perfect match! All I need now is a clear laquer as it dries off quite dull.

Very happy with the end result and the gentleman's willingness to sort out to customer satisfaction. Just search for scuffsandchipspro. Paul is a top bloke! thumbup

Having an RR colour is also quite a nice touch. smile

I am also Pearl Blue, and would be really grateful if you could let me have the details of this Ebay bloke as there is always a stone chip or two to sort out.
Thanks
