Well this bit of weather we were supposed to be getting ended up being a bit of a let down didn't it. Bright sunshine although quite crisp here this morning.

I'm in the Midlands and we had the first frost on the cars on October 5th, so overnight temps definitely dropping. Sure, I was up at 05:30, but it was parky!

We had the biggest ever thunderstorm in Rhodes on Friday night.

Our villa was on the top of a mountain, overlooking Navarone Bay and at one point at around 0230, it felt as if the thunderclouds were right outside the villa with lightning striking all around us. It was monumental to witness biggrin

Snow on the tops now up at work in Italy. Snow chains become mandatory to be carried in two weeks.

First frost of the season today in NE Scotland. Can't remember it being this late before.

I envy you a good frost. I'm getting bored of slightly sunny, slightly blustery, occasionally drizzly nothing weather.

And I do wonder if the incredibly mild autumn we've had bodes well for the snow lovers.

It's my birthday in 2 weeks and I can't remember it ever being this warm in the run-up to it. Normally it's chilly bordering on freezing fog.

Maybe I just have a rubbish memory though.

For me this weather is great normally our football season is 2-3 weeks behind due to games being called off.

In November 2006, due to a serious illness, I spent almost two months in a London hospital. I remember stifling wards due to the heat and days spent sitting in the warm sunshine in the hospital grounds.

If tomorrow's mini-heatwave arrived a day later we would be in with a chance of beating the November temperature record of 21.7oC (set in 1946 before climate change was en-vogue)

@Puggit - have you been reading the OPI thread on Netweather? Could be a cold winter...

I haven't, but there's plenty of chatter about this everywhere. A very similar build up to one of the recent cold winters smile

One thing I have been watching is the build up of snow across the northern hemisphere which is one of the best years on record. For example, in St Petersburg, Russia they have already had snow falling - when last winter they didn't see any until after Christmas!

Fascinating correlation on the face of it, and as you say, northern hemisphere snow is another positive indicator. Interesting times ahead in my view.
