Ace. Can you imagine the carnage if that happened here? I suspect my amusement would be pretty short lived. eek
Some short term term discomfort and inconvenience is a small price to pay for what boils down to an adventure in your own neighbourhood.

It must have been around 2010 when we got a proper dumping and I remember being at work, in the cold, doing hard physical work. As I watched a huge queue of traffic that was barely moving formed with everyone struggling to get around the snowy roads. And the looks on the faces of most of occupants of the cars was one of bemusement. Loads of people getting stuck in to help people get moving etc. I've seen similar in years since when we've had a good snowfall. It's such a rare thing (down south) that I really do think a gridlock inducing snowfall can bring out a sense of community and you see the best in people. Looking at a lot of the social media coming out from Buffalo right now I get the same impression.

If it happened all year every year then the novelty might wear off - but then if it did, the infrastructure would be forced to change and peoples attitudes (winter tyres, snow shovels in the boot etc) would make the shift too.

It'd certainly be an adventure. We're a mile from the main road down a hilly single track with high hedges. We'd be stuck in (or out) until the thaw came.

Any new thoughts on the UK weather over the next month or so?

Does the beast from the east still have tooth decay and gum disease? smile

We will get a couple of frosty mornings.

The Daily Express shall stop running stories of Diana and proclaim worst winter ever in 102020 years.
The Daily Fail shall report on the property prices of everyone stuck and get the values of the cars wrong.
The Guardians 5 readers will powerwk themselves into a coma over whatever is popular this week to be powerwked over.

The rest of us shall log on this thread and laugh at them.

Pug, smal and co shall continue to stare into their crystal balls and say the beast from the East is in the Dentist and to not give up hope.

This winter will likely be as non eventful as my mates sex life. biggrin

Still no signs of anything wintry, but that's no surprise at this time of year. Plenty of reasons to be hopeful, with a high pressure to the East keeping the Atlantic at bay for a lot of the time. Temps dipping in to December for sure, but again that's no surprise.

An average winter ahead for December on the cards, but things can change.

I've been using mine quite a lot so far. The other day I had a bit of a lockup, and that was travelling less than 10mph with spiked winter tyres! Was potentially expecting it, so it wasn't a problem. But it's due to the packed sheet ice with water on top. So no signs of any good winter coming to the UK at all - it hasn't arrived here fully!

Rubbish!

I have a Disco, I put a set of AT tyres with the winter snowflake symbol on them in Jan 13, a few months later I got this amount of global warming to drive in.

Please note what was used for a depth gauge..... hehe

Haha. Every year I have a capable car, it doesn't snow. Just seems to be the way.
