We've already had at least twice as many frosts as the entire last winter - for me, that's a win!

Still clinging on to hope for my 6/1 bet on snow in London for Xmas Day!

The METO have been suggesting there could be the possibility, of colder weather across the UK from early Jan (on their long range forecast over the past few days), this afternoon they have changed their mind.

Net weather forum are still sticking with a Cold turn in Jan. so who's going to get it right?

I think the 12z charts will be pivotal in this discussion!

Wouldn't you have thought that METO would have left their little footnote saying 'there is a small chance it could turn cold'..... just in case? they must be fairly certain given what some of the models are suggesting.

All the forecasts I've seen for the next week or so is a strong westerly airflow (varying between NW and SW winds) with virtually no suggestion of the white stuff. Although it's a week away, the above chart suggests exactly this, with maybe a dusting of snow on the Scottish mountains, but one would have to assume just rain at lower levels further south. Dull and wet is my prediction. smile

Take a look in the model thread on Netweather... The excitement is bubbling.

A couple of the models are showing some cold weather starting on Christmas Day and really digging in for Boxing Day.

However, one model, the ECM is refusing to play ball.

Here's some snow porn - models currently predicting a snowstorm on the 28th. It's unlikely to happen, of course!

Well you were right with the warmer thing. I had to take my coat and scarf off half way to work this morning.

Update from the MetOffice:

MO said:
It is important to note, however, that there’s still a chance we could see very different weather for Christmas Day. Here at the Met Office, we look at a range of computer model outcomes and a very small number of them do suggest a different picture, giving a forecast of stormy weather across the UK. Although this is currently at odds with the strongest signal from the forecast, we will closely monitor this and other possible solutions over the coming days to see if the likelihoods change

Should I take my skis back to the UK on Friday? I'll be there until the 28th (near Glenshee).
