The potential is definitely still there - it's a case now of wait and see. I think the most likely case is it's been shunted back by a day or two, so a white Xmas is less likely.

It's still outside of forecasting range, so will change a lot as the forecast firms up. There'll be upgrades, there'll be downgrades, there'll be disappointed PHers and snow lovers in various places!

28th is supposed to be the day it lands on us according to someone who says they know because they were given a work forecast. How true that is I dont know, I'll be in NY, flying back on 29th so he could have been just fking with me

Sorry guys, but I'm going to screw it up for you, have decided to take my skis over so until the 28th there will be no snow. That said, when I go back to Norway there will probably be record warmth over there and a huge snowfall in the UK, so perhaps best to prepare for it then)!

Midday model GFS model just coming out - seems some excitement in the NW forum.

Updates to follow!

It's not just you v8250, it's all these people getting special tyres for their cars and bringing skiis and panic buying tampons that are ruining it for the rest of us frown Honestly people, the less prepared you are then the more likely the snow!

I'm specifically not getting prepared...which for an ex-Boy Scout some forty years ago is a very hard thing to do. So, have yet to buy Nokian winter shoes for the Forester, am down to last 1/4 tonne of logs and the snow shoes have yet to be dusted off from last season. Anything else I can not do to be unprepared to ensure big snow falls?

Does anyone want to trade 300 Tena Ladies for some logs or a few pounds of self respect?

Am I able to wait and see how Snowmageddon works out? May borrow your idea if it does pan out that way. They'd also come in handy with ducktape to make an emergency blanket if required.

Honestly, the models are in a right mess. The form horse *at this point* appears once again to be a cool Xmas/Boxing Day. Possible frost, and outside chance of snow in the south with higher chancers further north and west.

After that, maybe a brief milder period and then... possibly snowmaggedon and cold returns!

Last night the models were all in a line and eerily similar. Now - it's like 52 card pickup out there.

On the plus side, the MetOffice have started talking about the possibility of cold biggrin

Already been some snow in the Lake District. This was last Saturday on the main road between Grasmere and Keswick. There was a Peugeot through a stone wall into a farmers field on the way out to do a walk up Helvellyn, quite icy it was.

I think there's more coming the day after boxing day so I'll try to get some better pictures over Hartside to Alston if it happens, that's usually where there's the most fun to be had!

When I look at the charts for around the 28th - 30th, my willy wobbles ever so slightly...

It's all about trends at the moment and the trends are looking good

Sounds like a deal. Fancy buying the oil to make it work? It cost me 66p/l and I only have about 1,600l left. Call it a round £1,700 and you can come and collect it tomorrow...
