If you're not prepared for lots of snow then you shouldn't be going to the Alps :P

I like snow and LOVE deep snow with blizzards however, I'm not too enamoured at the prospect of trying to get a Polo up an Alp in the 80cm+ snowfall that some sites are forefinger to fall on Friday.

I'd rather not spend a weekend in a snowdrift.

You knew this would happen when you booked it, I'm sure if I go back enough pages I'll find a biggrin accompanying your initial announcement. The timing may be a bit off, but you shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth and all that jazz.

I honestly didn't. Was hoping for a dump prior, but not while we're there.

I'll get some photo's up if we get there and the snow falls as predicted!

Walked up Great Gable on Saturday, on Friday it warmed up and rained a lot but there was still plenty of snow higher up and in pockets, a good 4 to 5 feet deep. I meant to check the news to see if the mountain rescue were out at all as seen a lot of poorly equipped people out, one group thought they were headed for Wasdale and they were headed towards Seathwaite/Borrowdale/Keswick i.e 100% in the wrong direction.

It was marginal at times whether crampons were required, and white out up the top with some light snow.

People can be naive in the hills, but in winter - when a slip without the means to self arrest means a good chance of dying, it does make you wonder. Does look rather special up there though.

Went a couple of hours drive away. Then encountered a mix of rain, hail, sleet and snow at different points during the day. Was worth it though!

I'm doing my best not to get excited.

But at the same time I'm checking this thread multiple times a day to see if it's been confirmed or downgraded hehe

i'm loving the forecasts for next week, I'm planning to move house on wednesday! rolleyes

On another note, I was up Great Gable last weekend! It was interesting trying to follow the invisible path... We saw all sorts of people up there, from fully kitted with ice axes at the ready, to fell runners in leggings and trainers (in a foot of snow).

All that jazz

I'm not sure it's going to be all of that, probably the same as last week, in some places you'll get loads (Rick I'm looking at you!) but in others nothing.

Showers mostly sleet and rain to the lower levels.

Friday for us, I think here will be fairly sheltered, we tend to have the tips of Cumbria take the edge off things from the west and North, Pennines to the East so mainly its crappy sleey , rain and wind we're expecting

Good luck with the move

On the face of it, this seems alarmist of Daily Express type proportions :-

Yet Piers Corbyn is signed up to the prediction, and he's usually on the money scratchchin

coffee Not a lot. If they were fell runners they'd have been carrying backpacks containing survival aids such as compass, food and jacket etc.

could this massive "event" mean any snow for us? I know we sometimes get the tailend of their storms etc.

What's the betting I'll be able to get a Polo (even with snow tyres and chains) up an Alp with this much forecast...

No idea. But, can you film your effort for our enjoyment and edification? (So long as you survive to tell the tale, of course).
