Just keeping this separate from the other drinking thread...

I am going to stay dry through September on order to save some money and to try an loose a couple of kg to buy some new bike wheels and to get to a racing weight.

Anyone else fancy joining me?

I managed dry January but an evening beer, especially when working away, has become a bit too routine.

I'll keep this thread updated with progress!

Good luck mate.

I have not had a drink since the World Cup Final (13th July) but have my last day of current contract on Friday and an official leaving night the Friday after.

I fear I may be out of the game after 3-4 beers!

Haven't had a drink since 1st August, same reasons as OP - save a few quid and possibly lose a few kg. So far first has been achieved, but I'm very surprised that so far no weight loss, considering I was drinking every day for months before. In fact I'm surprised that I hardly feel any difference for the abstension. Doesn't everyone tell us "Oh you'll feel bright eyed and bushy tailed when you stop boozing"? Hmph.

I'm thinking of giving this a try to be honest. It seems to be too easy at the moment just to go out "for a quiet few". I drink every weekend, but mainly because me and the wife have a good social life and meet up with friends a lot.

However, September is a quiet month for us so it would be easier to do.

I'll let you know how I get on too!

Im thinking of doing 'Sober for October'

Im hoping to:
Save some Cash
Loose some weight (im just under 13st, i want to loose a little tummy fat rather than weight)
Raise some money for charidee.

Im not sure what charity to raise for. I would usually opt for Help for heroes, but might do it for something else.

I enjoy a drink or two in the evening, and i fear the hardest thing will be having a drink out of habit!

OP I wish you the best of luck and i look forward to see how you get on.

I stopped drinking alcohol Sun 17 August and plan to abstain for 6 months. Primarily, this is for health reasons as I also hope to lose weight and exercise more. So I fully expect to join you in your dry September smile

Have been looking for the smallest of excuses for a while now. Somehow I don't think drinking a bottle of wine a night is the best thing in the world for me right now so why not, I'm in smile

May also confess to casually checking calendar to see how many more nights of enjoying a drink I have left!

Well today's the day!

I prepared last night by ensuring that we have fresh bread and milk so that I don't have to pop to the shop tonight and pass the 3 bottles of ale for £5 shelf. I also did all the ironing as I usually have a beer to get me through the basket of creased shirts.

I fitted all my winter lights to the bike too so that I can go for a ride this evening - to take my mind off not drinking and then have a piece of cake and a cup of tea when I get back.

I'm going to have a go at this.

I've managed to lose just shy of 2 stone in the last 3 months, but my gut seems to have retained it's fat so I'll be trying to shift it.

First night done!

And a 20 miles bike ride!

Off to bed soon to read a book. I wonder if I'll sleep better, hopefully I won't be woken up at 3am needing to go to the toilet like I normally need to after a few beers then evening before.

3rd night last night without a beer.

Bit of a row with my wife but I calmed my self with a cup of tea and a Nice cream biscuit.

Yeah, I think the problem is substitution - with Dandelion and Burdock. Killer stuff, one glass is impossible, almost as addictive as alcohol!

First week done!

I could have demolished a Hobgoblin last night but had a cuppa and choc bar instead.

I'm by myself in a hotel tonight so that will take some will power!

I managed the night in the hotel = mainly as the A63 into Hull was closed and my diversion meant I didn't get there till 10:45 and was knackered so went straight to bed without a thought of beer.

Last night was a doddle too as I went out on my bike.

Might do Sober October too biggrin

Another dry Friday! Even after a big Tesco shop, which was £20 cheaper than usual without the beer and wine.
