I used to enjoy playing Tiger Woods Golf on a mates PS3 but now have only a PC and went to look for the Tiger Woods game to buy. It turns out that EA have dropped the Tiger Woods name (It's now back to being PGA Tour Golf) and nevertheless, the game has not been available on PC since the 2012 version.

Then I found out that a new game has just been release called The Golf Club

http://store.steampowered.com/app/269730/

It looks pretty good at first glance but it's a completely new game and so could be rubbish. Has anyone played it? It's available via Steam for PC and I think next year some time for consoles.

Quick update. Bought the game (£26), downloaded it...wouldn't run. Turns out having Direct X 11 is not enough, the graphics card needs to support DX11 as well.

I've since ordered a replacement card which should arrive on Monday so I'll update this once I've got everything working.

It's not out till next week for PS4 and its download only from the PS store. It's getting good reviews, might be worth a try.

I'll be honest, i'm struggling with it. I bought it during pre-release, played it once and thought it was far from finished and gave up. Now it has been fully released and it doesn't seem to have improved any.

The course editor is pretty cool but I've still not managed to get into an online game and there are no AI players to compete against. Player customization is very limited (jersey, trouser, glove and hat colors only)

As per normal golf games its stupidly easy to hit an accurate 350 yard drive but then the putting mechanism is awful with no kind of feedback as to how much power you are putting behind the ball.

On the positive side, the courses seem well detailed. All the controls you would expect to shape your shot are present. At best though I would give it a 4. If anybody fancies trying to get an online game together give me a shout.

Well new card arrived (second hand GTX480). Turns out now that my PSU doesn't have the correct cables to run it (only has a single 6 pin plug whereas the GTX480 requires a 6pin + 8pin). I'm giving it one last chance by buying an adapter from 2x Molex to 8pin. If this fails then I'm getting rid of the whole lot and going back to not playing computer games any more....

And then log in to my work VPN, rattle off a couple of spreadsheets, fire up Lightroom to do some editing...oh wait.

I take your point but I play an odd game very occasionally. What I did essentially, was to buy a PS4 game for a PS3 (due to my own ignorance). The advantage I have over a console is that I can choose to upgrade my PS3 to a PS4 for minimal cash (but a bit more hassle).

Well I thought I would give you my first impressions of the game, I installed it last night for the Ps4.

Cons
The lack of a tutorial makes everything much harder to understand
The green reading for puts is rubbish
The golfer customization is very limited and boring
When the ball lands in bunkers or on a mountain the ball didn’t react in the way that was realistic
The graphics are not great in the areas where they count
There isn't the attention to detail I would have expected in a next gen game when you have an island green and it has no bridge or any other means of getting there I feel it's simple things like that which make the game more realistic.
The commentator has very limit phrases and repeats himself too much.

Pros
Very fast load time between holes
The scenery does look impressive

Over all I feel this game has been rushed and I’m disappointed that I have spent £28.99 on it I hope there will be some much needed updates to the game which will make it more enjoyable and worth its premium price tag.

So I did get the game to run once I'd got the graphics card working so I'll chip in (wahey) with my first impressions of the PC version.

Pros:

- Graphics are very nice
- Load times between holes are virtually non-existent, you can play a full 18 in 20 minutes.
- All the shot types are there
- The game is difficult, like golf. It is very easy to miss-hit shots and get a big score. Hopefully, like golf, I will get better with practice.
- I like the opportunity to play against ghosts, especially older rounds you have had yourself
- The course designer is pretty cool and ensures you don't get bored of the same old courses

Cons:

- Putting is very frustrating at first as there is no power meter. This will become less of an issue as you get better.
- It could just be me but chipping is impossible. It almost always goes almost nowhere. I have taken to playing flops when within 30 yards as chipping does doesn't seem to work properly. I will persevere with this.
- It is not very accessible to new players, no tutorial, tricky putting and even driving. I find sometimes the computer selected shot is far from ideal.
- Shots from the rough seem to be overly penalised. You have an 85% lie in the rough and hit a full-bore 5-iron and it may only go 100 yards. This could have been me as I have only played a handful of rounds.
- The biggest thing for me is that there is a total lack of any career progression. There is no opportunity to build your stats through practice, win prize-money and upgrade your clubs or any of the other things that would keep me playing the game.
- A driving range and practice green option would be very useful to try out and perfect all the different shots

As I said these are first impressions. I do hope that the developers intend to keep developing the game and adding to it. It does feel a bit demo like at the moment. Stuff like sutomising your golfer doesn't appeal to me at all. Who cares what colour the hat is etc.

Does anyone know if there is a feature road-map available anywhere?

Thanks for the reviews chaps. Wouldn't have minded to have a crack at this but not for £30. It sounds okay, think I would have gone for it if the price was about a tenner.

I've just found a page of tutorial videos on the developers website. It looks very useful.

I put this in my Steam wish list a couple of days ago but what what people have said on here I'll remove it and bin it off. It sounds like it's not finished (which is my pet hate at the moment - unfinished stuff).

Is it not still technically an early access game? (Not at a PC to get to Steam ATM) So it should (HA!) get better.
I will look for it in a Steam sale.

I believe it has now been fully released but a lot of the material on the website in FAQs etc. does say things like "X is not currently supported" implying that it might be in the future.

It's worth persevering with but I'm not sure if it's worth the full £30 just yet.

after a few days of playing this game I have reached the conclusion very quickly that this is a st game very disappointed as I have been looking forward to this next gen golf game for ages what a wast of money.
the game is titled the golf club that implies other people are members and you can play with them LIVE to me but you can't completely unsociable game hopefully EA get it right

I know I'm digging up an old thread but I'm intrigued as to why this game is getting such a bashing.

For my two pence worth:

Pros -
Graphics are very good, on a par/better than any EA Sports effort to date.
Sound effects are much improved, drivers and woods sound very realistic and long iron shots are very crisp when well struck. Poor ball strikes sound dull in comparison.
Ball/swing mechanics very realistic. The ballspin can no longer be manipulated in mid-air as on Tiger Woods, once you've hit it, you're in the hands of god/your judgement and skill. The ball spins properly when hitting the green, rather than just bouncing backwards every time.
Number of courses available are infinite - some real, some fiction.
Game is reasonably easy once you get used to it, but takes some getting used to, which I prefer, you should learn to be good at something, not just be able to pick it up straight away.
TGC Tours - an online tour which allows you to compete with real life players, cross platform, on real life events following the real European, PGA and Web.com tours (which follow the real life PGA and European Tour calendars, and where possible, on the same courses), with preliminary pro and amateur tours for beginners. Attention to detail in the tours is incredible, world golf rankings, money lists, cuts, tour stats all available. All free.
Course creator is excellent, with infinite options, you can create your home course, utterly ridiculous and impossible courses, stupidly easy courses.

Cons:
Golfer customization is non existant
No AI to play against offline.
No power gauge to putt with, so putting weight takes a while to get used to.

Overall verdict - it does take some getting used to, especially the putting, but other aspects more than make up for one or two small annoyances.
There maybe a Golf Club 2 out early 2017, hopefully golfer customisation is near the top of the priority list.
The TGC Tours site is great fun, tournaments are weekly, and its completely free.

Drop me a line if anyone wants a game, my PSN name is the_priest08.
