2010-12 the cars were perfectly good - it was just an inspired red bull performance that stopped them (and in 2012 the inability to string together the race weekend outside of the car)

I read on the BBC yesterday that Mclaren could stop the move, why they would remains to be seen, it would be a c**tish move to say the least. I've always liked JB in F1, his driving style, the guy has ability, seems to be a really good guy and is well regarded in the paddock. When developing a new chassis/engine, you need as much experience as possible, having Alonso and Button as team mates would be a good move in my eyes, once Honda sort out the engine deficiency, you should have a good package here.

On the flip side, the Williams move could do wonders, Massa and Bottas lack a certain something, I feel people keep treading lightly around the "Fernando is faster than you...." situation, it was years ago, get over it, lets f**king race!!!

Brundle seemed to think that Ron would keep him on when he was talking at the weekend.

Bumhat said in his notebook section that he had information that the Woking team would be the same lineup next year and he'd be able to say more in Spa...

I guess it is technically possible - given the F1 season doesn't start until April next year - to fit in some filming in Dec-Mar for some shows?

If Jenson was retiring then Top Gear would be an option but think he wants to be in F1 for a couple more years.

If he stays with McLaren next year if they get the engine sorted he could be there for 2017 as well.Remember Ron did not want Jenson this year but was out voted by the board and would assume thats still the case.

I personally think that the Honda engine will not be competitive for several years possibly when Alonso contract has ended and think that if Jenson was offered a Williams seat McLaren would let him go so he could at least have a couple of years in a competitive car before he retires.

Ferrari may keep Kimi or have Bottas, the Hulk or Grosjean and if Bottas went to Ferrari would Willians chose Jenson or a young gun with plenty of money.

I can see the silly season going on for a few more months.

I really like JB. We even gave our son Jenson as a middle name, However, I think its time for him to bow out and do something else. Hes considered the fittest driver in the paddock, so time for him to have a go at being a pro triathlete smile

JB is a world class driver, but I don't think he is as good as Lewis Alonso, Vetel, Riccardo and Niko. Even if he moves to Williams, he will be looking at 5th/6th behind the others, especially as Ferrari will only get better for next year.

I would like to see him on Top Gear. I think he would be excellent at that. Friendly, charismatic and the ability behind the wheel smile

But is F1 and Top Gear mutually exclusive? There is a 4 month window to film and no mention that it will be the same studio format...?

Hadn't thought of that...

The new "stig" perhaps, although obviously not a secret "tame racing driver"

What could be better than the 'not so secret' Stig? JB has often stated that he'd prefer to leave F1 when he thinks it's right. With the best will in the world, McLaren isn't going to deliver any kind of championship in 2016, so he'd be reliant on a further 2 years to try to earn some silverware...

Indeed, no practical way around it in my opinion. The time required, the insurance issues, the corporate/marketing angle within what I presume is a fairly restrictive contract.
