Make your payment directly to the finance company if the seller is using proceeds to pay off finance.

I did this when buying a £10k car. I'd made a test payment of £1 to the finance company beforehand which the seller confirmed had been recieved. Then on collection I stood with the seller, make a further £9,999 payment to the finance company and the seller handed over the vehicle. I'd also had confirmation that the total outstanding finance balance was £10k.

Or in fact any heavy weight cruiser;
The Diavel isn't a heavy weight cruiser by any standards. In fact it's not even a proper cruiser because it has loads of power, decent handling and proper brakes.

on another topic, few people telling me not to buy this as a first bike - I dont see how its more dangerous than a 600 r6 for example (infact safer as I plan to cruise around) and had my few attempts at dropping bikes so not to worried about that either
Forget the no no brigade. Go for it. biggrin

Just don't pussy foot around with locks so you end up buying a lock twice.

Just start off with a 2m long, 16mm Almax or Pragmasis chain + Squire padlock.

And park it in one of the many London carparks, most of which are free for bikes, not the street.

Stef1808 - some words of wisdom for you....

Firstly, the Diavel is a good first bike. I have recently done exactly the same and after 2 months and 800 miles it is absolutely awesome, it is a big bike and not as manoeuvrable as say a 600, but you will get used to it. The riding prison is very good and it is a very stable bike. The traction control/ ABS and ability to limit the power (urban mode) is very neat - especially when you are new to it.

Secondly regarding the purchase and outstanding finance, as others have said - make sure you pay black horse directly (they supply Ducati Finance through dealers) and any extra direct to the seller - do not take the sellers word for it - if they insist on paying it themselves then walk away - otherwise you could end up buying a bike that you don't own and the finance company could repossess it if the current owner doesn't pay it off.

Finally - the full termi system is awesome - mine has it and it sounds amazing and releases another 10bhp smile

Enjoy mate - you will love it smile

Pan's don't tend to be much of a hold up in heavy london traffic its the GS and RT beemers which really don't fit through normal bike sized gaps (even without panniers) and end up with queues of two wheeled stuff behind them.
Going off topic a bit - Pans have integrated panniers which fit snug to the side of the bike. Non integrated panniers, ie the aluminium boxes you get on a GS make the bike a lot lot wider for the same luggage volume. Just as well as Pan European look silly with the panniers off.

IMO the Diavel isn't a great city bike, the handling and bulk are fine, it's the engine, far too snappy and harsh at low speeds! I did love mine though!

Good luck with it Stef.

I get stuck behind a guy on a proper cruiser with huge handlebars from time to time on my way out of London. At least a Diavel has sensible width handlebars - you should be fine. Just take it easy to begin with.

It's fine in traffic, and really is not a heavy cruiser.
But it could get tiresome if used everyday, for the reasons stated above.
Apparently the latest revised version is better in the respect.

I just felt it didn't have good lowdown torque, and I was forever looking for the right gear!
