It adds a little to the "shiny new car" experience, which for a lot of folk (myself included) is quite exciting, even though the car may only be a "dull eurobox", "leasemobile" or other such term.

Unfortunately my company car term dates mean my cars tend to arrive about 2 months before the new plate dates, so although I will be getting a 64-plate car, it won't arrive until January (and I haven't chosen yet anyway).

I haven't seen any 64s yet, other than the "MY64 CAR" ones adorning every vehicle on a Vauxhall dealer's forecourt wink

The number plate system doesn't bother me any more... the changes happen so often, having the latest plate isn't special to me.

Picked up our new van on Wednesday last week - on a 14 plate. Wasn't worth waiting for 64.

Looks good, hope you enjoy it. I've just sold one to a Plumber for September delivery, he had a test drive in one from me and absolutely loved it.

Of course, pay outright and give a dealer a reason to knock the value a bit and you'll pay a modest penalty wink
We bought outright... generally do on vans, then lease cars.

It's amazing how many people don't buy cars/vans in August though waiting for the new reg... means you can get a bit of deal, which offsets any knock-down come trade in.
Yep, we've been giving people an extra £500 (50/50 contribution from Ford and the dealer) for August deals over September ones. Give people the choice and of 20-odd deals this month, only one has held adamant that they want the new registration - a car customer, van customers and the majority of car don't care so much any more.

For a busy Ford dealership, 10 car and 2 van salespeople have just half a dozen vehicles going out on Monday, pretty normal weekday in other words.

Still reeling from the spanking you got? Oh dear oh dear.

You should be spending your leisure time doing things you enjoy instead of wasting your energy and time on me, after all, you've got another 5 days of pointless work, and meetings about the meeting, starting Monday, all to make those monthlys.

I must admit it's getting un-nerving having you comment on everything I say, did you try and search me on FB and Twitter as well? Don't you think you're getting obsessed? You need to let it go Lenny, I won't teach you so as you were, nothing to see, obey & consume.

"Red on White, Stop on Sight" etc.

Have only ever been stopped twice in 15 years actually - both times using them properly also!

I assume that's because if they see a trader using them correctly, they're guilty of something else far worse. hehe

It's a good van! We had one of the original SportVans (Blue + White Stripes) with the 140ps engine, but it lacked a 6th gear. Dad had a big crunch in it back in 2012, and I sold it soon after, so we've been making do with the Astra and Combo since.

This new one is great though... nice spec in Sport trim with the reversing camera etc, plus the new 155ps engine and 6 speed box make it much more refined.

I haven't properly understood the dates / years on registrations for over a decade.

I have had no clue what they mean in the slightest since 2010...

What an odd person you are, spanking, where? 2 comments, really stalking you! What monthly's, as stated earlier don't have anything on finance and work when I want to, so no meetings Monday or any day next week.
You really are a precious little muppet aren't you, presumably weekends isn't your leisure time, of course, sitting in a portakabin on security work for minimum wage you don't get weekends off.

There are two registration periods per year. 1st March and 1st Sep.

The numbers in any plate registered between 1st March and 31st August correspond to the last two digits of that calendar year. Therefore the current plate is **14 ***, where * are letters.

The first pair of letters are regional identifiers. The last three are a random selection.

From 1st Sep of a given year to Feb 28/29th of the next - add 50 to the number. So on Monday "14" will become "64" and runs across the calendar years 2014 and 2015.

So an "02" plate was first registered between 1st March-31st Aug 2002 and referred to as an 02/02 in the trade, a "56" plate was first registered between 1st Sep 2006 and 28th Feb 2007 and referred to as either an 06/56 or 07/56 subjec to which calendar year it fell into.

Is that *really* so difficult a concept to grasp for people, still?

The only bit that became confusing for me was when they rushed through T,V, W, X and Y registrations, and trying to remember which years they fell into.

In my local BMW dealer's today for some parts for my old 3-Series.

Line of new 64 plate cars waiting to be collected. Utterly fascinating. I could hardly contain myself.

I have seen quite a few 64 plates on the back of transporters over the past couple of days, and the wife's getting her new car on Monday. Well, I say she is, but it's me picking it up. Nowt too exciting - just a good all round Golf GTD.
