Ok so I'm cheating as it's 4 days before the plate change on 1 Sept, but I saw a transporter on the M25 with 5 Thrifty combivan rentals today, all plated up as 64s and ready to roll for Monday. So unless you work in a main dealer.. be interesting to hear how quickly people see new cars emerging in this post-recession time (yeah right!), plus thoughts on whether we still care to be seen to be driving / riding the newest?

I saw a red mx5 today on the A595 at Lillyhall, I am guessing the local dealer doing a pdi/test?

No trade plates visible either...

Turned down the opportunity to get a 64 plate on my lease deal to take delivery tomorrow, otherwise would have been 1st week of Sept, it's been on order since June and I'm quite impatient driving

To be honest, I lost interest when they moved tp the 6 monthly plate change.

I remember the massive fun (If you can call it that) we used to have getting ready for the August registrations. smile

Reading some of the MT press, it seems to be the general consensus that New Car Sales are on the up! Good news for those involved in the business.

Collect my Jeep GC Summit on Tuesday next week on a 64 so that'll likely be the first 64 plate I'll see. biggrin

Could have had it on the 1st but that's when it is getting VentureShield put on the front and the Sales Exec is on holiday until the 2nd.

Does have that number plate give you extra power, what are the benefits?

Thanks

I assume 64 is the newest one? Surprised people actually follow things like this.

64 plate Bentley (not sure what model, think it was a mulsanne) on trade plates - Penarth Road, Cardiff.

First 64 plate i've seen, and certainly the best 'first' for a long time!

I was going to post a similar thread because I saw a line of Transits at the side of my local Ford dealership - GK Ford in Chesterfield.

The new, full size, hi-roof Transits are tall aren't they. hehe

I'm picking up a 64 plate 1 series on Monday. In 28 years of motoring, it'll be my first ever new car.

I didn't deliberately plan to collect it in line with the first day of the new plates, but when I was told delivery would be early September, it seemed the right thing to do for my first new one.

I also remember the excitement as a child looking out for the first new plates when they came in on 1 August. Not so exciting these days when they change every 6 months, but I suspect I'll be like a child on Christmas eve on Sunday night. 2pm pickup, so I cam drive Mrs L up the wall all morning.

I don't really care about these things but my new lease car (m135i) has arrived, I could have it on Friday but I thought I'd wait till it would get a 64 plate so I picking it up next week instead.

It's interesting as PH'ers are more car focused than most, but I actually realised when I saw those '64s that I didn't care about new'ness anymore. Was a bit of a shock actually...I'm either getting old or the government's succeeded and numbed me with the new style plate and 6/12 changes. Bit of both probably?

I really miss the 'old' 1 August!

Picking up my Leaf on 1st with a WA64 plate.

Didn't really consider the new reg until the salesman suggested that I might like to wait an extra week and then I decided that it would make sense.

Oh noes. I've only had my new 14 plate car two months.

I'll have to trade it in.
