eBay etiquette - when is it ok to tell them to do one?
Discussion
Morning all
A simple question really...
I sold a bucket seat on eBay on Monday, it took the buyer until weds morning to pay, and has yet to communicate with me at all despite numerous requests to confirm how he'll collect it...
So the question is as per title, how long until I refund his dosh and send him on his way??
I've only ever sold a few cheap things so not that clued up on typical process here...

If he's paid the money then I'd possibly put whatever he's bought out of the way and forget about it until the buyer gets in touch.
The thing is, if he's sold it then either he wants it out of the way completely, or he wants the money. If the former, then it'll still be in the way. If the latter, then, certainly if it were me, I'd be wondering whether I could or could not spend the money for fear of the buyer thinking "nah" and asking for a refund / initiating formal eBay proceedings.Better to just give it a little while, then refund and start again.
Most people do not visit ebay regularly so response times can be slow. Would send reminder after a few days, then somethjng more stern with deadline to collect or you refund and relist.
Then block bidder incase they decide to play games.
Paypal & collection is not a good combination. No proof of delivery so buyer can get money back.
I'd send him one more message saying the seat's ready to collect and you're waiting for him to organise a good time and let you know.
As long as it's through ebay messages it's tracked so if he opens up a case then you can quickly knock it back
Chances are though it's been a bank holiday, they're back at work and will sort it out, just not quite as quick as you'd like

Paypal plus self collection leaves you very exposed to fraud.
Make sure you make a receipt to be signed by the buyer when/if he collects.
Self collection should always be cash payment IMO.
It won't matter if the buyer leaves photocopies of his passport and birth certificate signed in blood - if the buyer opens an "Item not Received" dispute and the OP can't provide tracking then he'll lose.Make sure you make a receipt to be signed by the buyer when/if he collects.

OP - I'd refund straightaway and message your buyer telling him you want cash on collection once he's inspected the item. When you relist, put in your listing about accepting cash once the item has been inspected.
Items like car seats, prams, electrical stuff are excellent targets for scams.
Ah right, thanks guys massively appreciated, I had no idea. Ironically I figured I would be 'safer' using paypal
The buyer has tons of recent feedback which is why it's thrown me that they've paid but now won't reply to anything.
So if I refund him and ask for cash on collection that wouldn't be seen as dodgy in itself?
It is frankly in the way so I just want shot of it!

I asked the exact same question a few months back. Now I always put 'Payment or contact within 24 hours of winning, please' in my listings.

He might lose the Paypal case but he wouldn't lose the small claims one, or have any real trouble getting the 'buyer' arrested for fraud.Gassing Station | The Lounge | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
