Morning all

A simple question really...

I sold a bucket seat on eBay on Monday, it took the buyer until weds morning to pay, and has yet to communicate with me at all despite numerous requests to confirm how he'll collect it...

So the question is as per title, how long until I refund his dosh and send him on his way??

I've only ever sold a few cheap things so not that clued up on typical process here...

I would give it another week, then refund and relist.

If he's paid the money then I'd possibly put whatever he's bought out of the way and forget about it until the buyer gets in touch.

The thing is, if he's sold it then either he wants it out of the way completely, or he wants the money. If the former, then it'll still be in the way. If the latter, then, certainly if it were me, I'd be wondering whether I could or could not spend the money for fear of the buyer thinking "nah" and asking for a refund / initiating formal eBay proceedings.

Better to just give it a little while, then refund and start again.

Most people do not visit ebay regularly so response times can be slow. Would send reminder after a few days, then somethjng more stern with deadline to collect or you refund and relist.

Then block bidder incase they decide to play games.

Paypal & collection is not a good combination. No proof of delivery so buyer can get money back.

I'd send him one more message saying the seat's ready to collect and you're waiting for him to organise a good time and let you know.

As long as it's through ebay messages it's tracked so if he opens up a case then you can quickly knock it back

Chances are though it's been a bank holiday, they're back at work and will sort it out, just not quite as quick as you'd like

Paypal plus self collection leaves you very exposed to fraud.

Make sure you make a receipt to be signed by the buyer when/if he collects.

Self collection should always be cash payment IMO.
It won't matter if the buyer leaves photocopies of his passport and birth certificate signed in blood - if the buyer opens an "Item not Received" dispute and the OP can't provide tracking then he'll lose.

OP - I'd refund straightaway and message your buyer telling him you want cash on collection once he's inspected the item. When you relist, put in your listing about accepting cash once the item has been inspected.

Items like car seats, prams, electrical stuff are excellent targets for scams.

Ah right, thanks guys massively appreciated, I had no idea. Ironically I figured I would be 'safer' using paypal

The buyer has tons of recent feedback which is why it's thrown me that they've paid but now won't reply to anything.

So if I refund him and ask for cash on collection that wouldn't be seen as dodgy in itself?

It is frankly in the way so I just want shot of it!

Also, it's an odd looking setup, it's under the name gaijin.motors but the shipping address seems to be some sort if courier/transport location in dartford.

Has 1000's of positive feedback comments and no negatives...

Dear all, please don't forget that not everybody is a desk jockey with constant internet access, many like me rely on mobile internet when at work out on the road , also many truckers have no control over where they are going to be daily or even in the Uk , be a little patient.

Work address perhaps? Is it PayPal verified?

So is he actually physically close to you, is collection in person a reasonable proposition for him?

Maybe he was expecting it to be shipped out, which is why he has paid already.

No he's miles from me and i did write collection only all over the ad and paypal, the cost of shipment wouldn't be far off the cost of the seat!!

I totally accept that not everyone has web access 24/7, that said he's had 4 days...

I asked the exact same question a few months back. Now I always put 'Payment or contact within 24 hours of winning, please' in my listings.

It looks as tho' Gaijin are a German outfit - they will be having a courier collect and pass to their importers. Be patient it will work out I'm sure.

I now detest ebay buyers.

I used to think "it may not be high value but it helps someone, prevents land fill and I make a couple of bob".

Freecycle has gone the same way.

Off to the tip with my stuff now.

He might lose the Paypal case but he wouldn't lose the small claims one, or have any real trouble getting the 'buyer' arrested for fraud.
