Morning,

So SWMBO has given the go ahead for a self build camper. Am pretty sure I can cover off the required skills myself but it would be handy to have something to refer to when the inevitable head scratcher shows up. Anyone got a good recommendation for a book or two and maybe the odd weblink?

EDIT - Thanks to the Mods for the title fix smile

Can't help with any links but report yourself to the Mods and they might be able to change the title for you. Will probably stop people like me stopping by to see a camper van changing itself into something different.

Have you had a look at the Self Build Motor Caravanners Club?

I bought this one which covers most of what you need to know.
some of the photos are a bit fuzzy but the text is all there clear and well thought out. There are pages at the back detailing costings and build times.

I bought a new conversion in the end based on reading the book, the author took 350 hours to convert his and I wanted to be on the road before 2020.

I will one day do my own, maybe when I have retired.
Good luck its a fun thing go do

I'm considering the same and found this site useful to read. If nothing else for initial understanding of topics I'd need to research.

The Deep Red site was a huge help to me building mine, as was the SBMCC site.
But as Agent Orange says, do your own research and work out what's best for you - other people's builds are great as inspiration and a source of ideas but this is your chance to do something that suits you so my first piece of advice would be to sit down and work out what you really want to use the van for.

I put a thread in Reader's Cars on here with an overview of what I did - here - feel free to PM me if you want to ask any specific questions, I learned a lot in a short space of time.

Have a look through some of the build threads on here: http://www.vwt4forum.co.uk/index.php

It's a VW T4/T5 forum, but will certainly give you ideas on layouts and all the charging/electrickey gubbins etc.

That's where I got most of my info from before building mine. My build thread's on here (as well as the T5 forum) http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...
