The main trouble with Basingstoke is not that it's scummy, or crime-ridden, or particularly a bad place, just that it's not good in any way.
rofl

But nail on the head with that description. There are some really stty places to live where at least you know you'd have more fun than living in one of the generic estates, just off the medium sized roundabout, you know near a smallish office complex somewhere in Basingstoke.
Many of my mates in Hampshire refer to Basingstoke as Basingrad as it's considered dull and with too much concrete. I've not been there for many years, so I don't know if that's fair or not.
Basingrad is from the way it was years back. Boringstoke is now more applicable - Its no better or worse than any other "modern" town. Low unemployment, plenty of bland modern estates with lousy parking, no decent nightclubs .....

Went there once and thought it was quite nice, but was put off going back after getting a speeding ticket by a hiding copper leaving the place. 36 on a deserted 30mph part of the A12.

I quite like where I live, good amount of work about, reasonably property prices and plenty of choice for entertainment, eating and shopping and stuff.

But alot of people don't like Milton Keynes because it has too many roundabouts, pussies!

Loads of people lay into their home town. It's really annoying.

Usually younger types who've yet to explore further afield, lambasting the town their parents raised them in. Really gets on my nerves. It's as if they think they're better than everyone before even having proved themselves in any social or professional circumstance.

My home town is far from perfect, but it has it's charm. I had the option to move away, or into the city, but chose to stay as I have friends and family here and I love the region.

I love where i live and after moving to various places found myself back in the village i grew up in as i wanted to be here.

I can still recognise that some parts of the area are ste, but they are local ste and that matters.

My village would be:
Bagshot - don't drink in the Kings Head.
