When i first bought my 3000S i was told by the vendor there was problems with the petrol tank and fuel.
The 2 filters he had put in the fuel line were very dirty.
So i removed the tank and cleaned it out. I bought a special Kit from "Restom" in France to treat the tank in 3 stages.
First degreaser, Second Rust Treatment and Third but not least a special Resin. o.k. no problem. I left it a week before putting petrol in the tank.
I put a new Glass seethrough filter in the line Inside the boot to watch petrol flow.
I can see lots of Air bubbles and the filter in the line Inside the boot does not fill correctly. It is sucking Air in the line.
I am sure the problem is the Pickup pipe that goes down into the tank. It must be rusted and porous.
Does someone know what the pickup inside the tank is like.
thanks Alan

You May be better fitting a new tank altogether i am unsure about how they lie inside however a real pain to change i would have thought i guess it would not happen with a full tank of fuel but thats not the point of the tank winkYou can get a new one from David Gerald or Adrian is getting some Turbo Tanks Made which may be better as they prevent the fuel coming out on tight corners going fast as tend to happen i have one on order for the Taimar as i decided to wait until they where available before changing.

Hi Alan,

Suppossing the flexes and lines between tank and filter have been checked and found OK ?

When removing and re-installing the lines on the 90° elbow on the tank, are you sure you haven't disturbed/fractured the elbow ? (if so, some liquid metal might get you off the hook, for a little time....)

If it is the pickup line in the tank, I too think its time for a new tank, since if the line is bad, what will the rest of the inside of the tank look like....

i know you are both right. I just need to sell my 1975 1600M first or my Lotus Elan +2s130/4 which are both on the market. That will help the cash flow

Just take your time and do things right you did get her at a good price so even if the funds are not there at the moment you know that you could spend the same again on making her one of the best and not be out of pocket if you sold her but Rome was not built in a Day just enjoy the journey its not as if your without toys to drive.

I have seen your add (without picture (?)) for the 1600M and must say France and rhd, lower powered TVR' (their perception, not mine...) is not a very good combination.

Have you considered putting it up for sale in the UK ? (price level is getting better by the day... )

Can't comment on Lotus'es I afraid

(I will now go back minding my own business wink )

Have you any pictures of the 1600m and price as i am looking around just not sure what to get but a 1600M that i could fit a V8 in might be an option as it seems a few others are doing this.

It would be a shame to do that FM there are not that many 1600 OE Ms around and nice to see them restored and 140bhp is possible and that takes them to what a 3000s was when new without upgrades.

sorry FasterM,
but i would not sell ma 1600M to someone that i knew was going to rip the engine out to fit a V8. I always keep my cars as they were meant to be. That's why i am a classic car fanatic. I don't mine Classic tuning if that was how it was done in it's day.
Well i'm like that

looking through the car's paperwork i have found a receipt in 1990 for a Product called "Carbon Flow". It's stated that it is a special gauze you put in the tank so you can use Unleaded fuel.
I know since then the Engine was rebuilt by Burton in 1999.
I Wonder if some of this crap gauze rubbish is still lerking in the tank and is the cause of the Pickup problem. merde merde merde
Please excuse my French

Probably much quicker downhill - which is usually 50% of the time!

Should have added that most of the advantage with the lighter engine will be on the bendy bits (the v6 is the equivalent of carrying a large lady in the passenger seat compared to the 4 pot). Don't expect any any big advantages in fuel consumption with a crossflow tuned to 140hp.

tomtrout,
just a small detail a Lotus Elan +2 is 900kgs and a Lotus Elan Sprint is only 700 kgs and 126 bhp Under the bonnet. This means 180 bhp/ton without tuning.
My +2s130 is not in the same ball game as my Sprint with 200 kgs less
