I'm finalising a Wickes kitchen tomorrow, and I have to allocate 4 appliances into the order;

Pyro single 60cm oven
Induction hob
Hood
Freestanding 60cm fridge/freezer

The only brands Wickes do are AEG, Zanussi or Electrolux, which I believe all now sit under the same parent group, thus you pay for the style/features with AEG rather then any quality difference?

We've stretched our budget on the kitchen and gone for solid oak doors and thick solid wood worktops, so with that in mind I'm not wanting to skimp on appliance quality (although the very top top brands are out as you'll see form my budget), therefore my thinking is to buy/supply my own to fit. I'm not too fussy about having matching brands either, as I'd rather have one of the best for each area.

Budget wise, I'm aiming to get all 4 for no more than £2000, so on which brand(s) should I put my money? Bosch, Siemens, Samsung, Miele etc etc, or do I just stick with a brand(s) from the Wickes choice?

TIA

I would suggest that certainly Miele and possibly Siemens and Samsung might be out of your budget, although if you can find a deal you might sneak it. Other than that, I would suggest go for the best you can afford, but I suppose that's pretty obvious.

Neff or Miele.

If you are determined to have the best, you could keep going with the original appliances while saving up for high-quality replacements.

I had two AEG pyro ovens in my last house and were faultless, both had the pre programmed cooking facility and it worked a treat

We are just in the process of planning a new kitchen.

We currently have a Miele washing machine. I won't lie, it wasn't cheap, but when we bought it, whilst my wife was still pregnant with our son, I said that he'll leave home before the washer does. I'm pretty confident this will be the case, after selling the things in a previous life. Its also whisper quiet when washing, all you can hear is the water gently sloshing around if you are stood next to it.

For our integrated Fridge and Freezer, we'll be getting Neff appliances. They actually cost about the same as Siemens and Bosch on AO.com at the moment, so its a total no brainer.

For cookers, our desire is different - my wife is desperate for a range cooker - so we'll be sensible and buy a Rangemaster - probably an Elan 90. We could spend absolutely pop star money on a range cooker, and I think this is where our budget is stuck.

In your position, I'd just buy Neff everything. Theres good reason that when you see nice apartments in London agents actually bother to say 'Neff integrated appliances' ... you don't see them say that for other brands.

Can't see any reason to buy from Wickes. Of all the decent German options, I like the design of Siemens best.

I'd probably go AEG from your list, I heard their washers were pretty good!

Though we have all electrolux stuff in our apartment and they've been perfectly good bar the washing machine which has broken again. The first time a bra underwire managed to hole the plastic outer drum/drum housing. In addition limescale had ruined the bearings etc (but thats my fault) and the other day I think its just binned its control board. Still its over 5 years old and it takes some abuse so not a bad innings I guess.

The electrolux gas hob is brushed stainless but you do have to be careful what you clean it with...ours looks horrible after a sponge with the green scourer bit on the other side was used on it to get some tough muck off.

Bar the washer though, we haven't really had any serious trouble with any of the other kit. As I say, its been perfectly good!

While I am here... what is smeg stuff like? I only know they do those daft 50's style fridges that are like a reverse tardis. What are their cookers, ovens and dishwashers like because thats what the previous owner of our new house has left behind!

Have just installed a Smeg 71l oven - fast to heat up, good range of features, completely pyro, large (could fit in three shelves no issue).

Bosch/Neff/Siemens = all the same, just different features (see: VW Group)

Same with AEG, Electrolux, Zanussi - So look for what gives you the features you want really, IMO.

I agree with the suggestion above, in that just carry on with your current appliances and just replace them as needed.

Miele are a great product, although that does come with a substantial price tag.

I realise you are not looking for one of these but have a watch of this:

No doubt genuine, but amusing to compare their enthusiasm for foolproofness (eg cutting the cake, 'sealing' the machine with tape) with the fact that the video has so many edits in it that anything could have happened... an entire herd of wildebeest could have gone through and you'd never know!

Indeed, however, I will putting our dishwasher through the cake test and ill do a video. Not sure anyone would want to watch the dishwasher for 2 hours on you tube though.

OMG, last week the Ice Bucket Challenge, next week the Dishwasher Cake Challenge - and the nation flushes tens of thousands of large Victoria Sponges down very small pipes with very hot water and posting it on Facebork banghead

I think you need to get over yourself.

A lot.

Do you not perhaps think that a manufacturer making such claims might get into a spot of bother if they were proved untrue?

Anyway, there is no way on this earth, that I would let a good vic sponge go to waste proving something to some random on the internet.

Op,

From my days working for Comet, I'll Zanussi, AEG and Electrolux are all the same company.

That said, I'd go AEG.

eta...

You're already aware of this! Sorry, I skim read. I'd still go AEG though.

I used to do a lot of work at Electrolux in Luton and was eventually allowed to but whatever products I wanted from the staff discount shop.

I went with AEG and every one of them failed within a short period after the years guarantee expired.

I wouldn't touch an AEG product , let alone recommend them , but I guess the name sounds better biggrin

Seriously , AEG, Zannusi and Electrolux all came out of the same shed , until manufacturing was all shipped off to Eastern Europe that is.

Just to add..

Their drawing office was full of Dyson cleaners and Miele washing machines, when asked why , I was told it was because they were the best products in the market that they wanted to match.
