yawn, clearly the government are getting ready to pass some more oppressive laws that will restrict our freedom in the name of increasing our safety.

Yes indeed. I can see those with blood on their hands actually giving a flying fk about the police and social services.

Does this mean security is going to be a more of a pain in the arse than usual when I fly into Heathrow on Monday?

Possibly - if you have a Syrian visa stamp in your passport

Glad we are agreed.

I don't why they cannot quietly increase the level without announcing it to IS.

Why do the government seemingly want us all afraid all of the time?

Nice to see so many informed postings. I assume you all have access to the latest intelligence?

I suppose the threat levels have been high since 2003. Was a severe threat level in place at the time of 7/7?

Let's just say you know diddley-squat about what really goes on and what gets prevented. Would you prefer the security services ignore credible intelligence?

Healthy skepticism is a good thing when based on evidence. Black swan events notwithstanding when you have information you act on it with something like this.

Well that's just the point.
Theresa May categorically stated that there was NOT any new intelligence that an attack was imminent.
It's a PITA that for the past 15 years odd our governments ,of all parties, have allowed extremists to spout their evil on the street,in mosques and universities etc.
Not only has this increased the risk of an attack but it has also divided our communities so nobody accept the extremists have gained by their inaction.
At least in today's speech Cameron sought to clearly differentiate between extremist nutters and your average Muslim.
It will only be by having the majority of the Muslim community "on side" that we can hope to lessen the threat.
