Definitely Derek eek no other signs of burning either looking at the fire rings & general gasket condition so just looks localized to the weakest area of that part of the gasket (between fixings) scratchchin make sure the escaping gases have not eroded/deformed the block or head carefully thumbup a nitrous induced failure I presume scratchchin

after cleaning away the scorch marks i can barely feel anything with my nail. Guess i dodged a bullet this time.
Yes a nitrous mistake. I have a 3rd nitrous solenoid with a very small jet that is operated by the left red button on the steering wheel. This is to weaken the mix as it goes rich off the scale on the wideband when i am full tilt in 3rd gear. Works a treat. BUT... i didnt use stage 1 (the full throttle system) and hit the left button with stage 2 (the right button). So it may have gone a weak towards for a moment!

Get your heads ringed or it will happen again with the power you are running. I melted a piston on my first SC build because they weren't.

I wouldn't be surprised if you had a shard of metal that has got jammed against the fire ring, then heated up & melted the ring....

You can see scores at the top of the bore & the piston ringland looks from the picture to have lots of rubbish around it. (meticulous cleanliness essential).

Yes, I am learning much more about nitrous recently and the thing every one keeps telling me is be very careful not to run lean. It would be great to catch up with you at some point as you clearly know much more about nitrous than I do and I could pick your brains on a few questions.

Mine runs off a progressive controller which comes in at 40% and ramps up to 100% over 2 seconds which is triggered by a throttle switch so no buttons to press so hopefully I won't be able to make any mistakes...hopefully.

V8 Tuner sells them too Derek wink if your staying with stock style gaskets I would only use OE/Elring I intend too wink Elring are like Goetz and Reinz they are OE to many vehicle manufacturers and quality

Perry Stephenson swears by the Elrings but also uses copper gasket sealant with them. He has run huge amounts of nitrous and now runs a 4.6 with an old school blower and nitrous to run mid 9's in his MGB.
