Hello all,

Previous car history:

1. 1998 Fiat Punto Sporting 1.25 (that 0.05 litres made all the difference).
2. Astra
3. 2003 MG TF
4. Audi A6 (more of a longterm loan from father).
5. 2010 BMW 330i Coupe (on lease)
6. 1988 Porsche 944
7. 1998 BMW 528i
8 2009 BMW z4 Coupe

Favourites so far would be the Punto as it was my first car. The MG because it was my first rear wheel drive car, I had some great times in that. The Porsche 944 due to its retro character and the BMW 528i due to it being £700 and lovely.

Earlier this year I moved on from the sub £1k BMW 528i (E39) to the z4 coupe. I was looking for a modern classy coupe that could handle my long commute but also be fun and occasionally trackable. A modern version of a Porsche 944 is what I needed. My car is black with red leather, satellite navigation, heated seats, bmw sound system with large speakers behind the seats and various other options. It rides on the 18" split rims and came with run flats.

Its been a good summer though I haven't really bonded with the car. Its not the organic sports car I was hoping for and do miss the 944 at times. This was to be expected though really going to a modern mainstream car after the Porsche 944, I was considering the 968 but thought better of it for my current commute. Even after removing the run flat tyres which was a massive improvement, the car never feels comfortable on rough surfaces. I can feel the electronic steering getting confused and such like. The e39 steering was so much nicer. It could really do with an LSD too. All in all though it has been a good all rounder and the benefit of the eco dynamic steering is the fuel economy which has been great. 30mpg for the summer including 3/4 track days. A friend of mine runs a Clio sport thing on our commute and gets slightly worse or similar econemy. The engine pulls great, especially on motorway slip roads. It is my 3rd BMW 6 cylinder and have like all variants. The boot also deserves a mention, its larger than many small hatches. I would like to try a z4m, old school engine and hydraulic power steering. That sounds like sex to me.

I have quite enjoyed the car at Brands Hatch this summer. The front engined layout and general road set up has been great for learning compared to previous outings in my fathers Lotus Exige. I love balancing it on the throttle, its very predictable.

Anyway heres some pictures:

I keep thinking about one of these for my next car but everyone's comments on the ride and steering put me off! Shame as they are such a nice looking car.

Some people obviously like it. I think it does give a bit of a mini muscle car feel. Its just not me. The newer 3 series I had in the past had better developed steering. The suspension matched the run flats better on 3 series too. It was annoying though that I had the 330i manual thinking it was enough up the ladder but you have to get the 335i to get proper hydraulic steering. Niche first world problem.
