In my bike accident back in 2008, I was wearing an Arai Condor, my head hit a stone wall and the Arai cracked in half, I have a rather large scar in the back of my head now..

It doesn't matter what you wear, they will all break but I like to think that having the Arai saved my life whereas a lesser helmet wouldn't have offered anywhere near as much protection?

I won't wear anything less than Arai or Shoei now..

I have a photo somewhere, I will try to find.
You like to think that...that's all.

well don't get a really cheap one

i like my arai RX-7. it's a great fit, which is important (Shoei lids didn't suit my shape of head so well) - i use ear plugs, so not worried about wind noise.

After having a mid range AGV I wouldn't buy another one, horrendously loud but an ok helmet.

Arai, had two of these, don't think id buy an Arai again, felt so much better than the AGV when I bought them, lovely looking, and quiet. However the visor system is st, it fogs up too easy without a pinlock, and the middle range ones are a bit heavy.

Bell - top of the range m5 and its fantastic. Seriously best lid ive ever had, so light, well put together where it maters, there is aspects of it that look cheap but can fault its function. A fking bargain at £85. I barely use my Arai now.
I am also really impressed with my M5X, the visor system is so solid and no rattles or clicks, as MTB says for £100 a bargain - but for £500 as advertised - i don't think so
did you get your tax refund?
unlike you, i could not be arsed to chase a refund for a tenner, even if it was from the Tax office.

So don't forget to spend as much on training yourself to ride safer as you do on that fancy replica helmet...you take the skills with you forever, but you will change the helmet in a few years when you get bored.......
Great advice ! No helmet will save you if you ride head on into a car but having the skill, knowledge (and experience) to avoid it will save your bacon !

Shoei GT Air on my head.

Comfortable, OK not that quiet, drop down sun visor without thinner forehead crash foam (Visor fits under a slightly flared shell), nicely made, pinlock. removeable, replaceable, customisable comfort liner. Shoei technician backup incase the fit slackens over time.

I crashed one when some knob rode across the A4 right in front of me, it did a brilliant job, so I bought another identical one.

My view is no more valid than any other, but I prefer to have something more expensive and better quality on my head.

Agree about training. Do bikesafe. I dont care who you are or how good/experienced you are. Do bikesafe. Fifty quid for a day of teaching and riding with the Police with a FREE lunch is a bargain, and the skills you learn are 100% about you coming home in one piece. Them police riders are extremely good and the only riders to come away none the wiser are those who were too arrogant to learn.

Do bikesafe.

If I wasn't buying a house I'd have bought one. Parents even offered a small sum as Christmas and Birthday to help me along the way. But losing £1k on this while starting a mortgage up would be foolish...

Always been really happy with Arai. Never paid full price for any of the five I have had so far. If you do not want this years design then the discounts on previous years models are deep. Always buy a bright one. The reps for Japanese riders are usually good and discounted online.

Last Arai RX7 GP cost me £350.

it is a really comfortable helmet and the vents are great.

So I would shop around, try on a load of helmets and think about what you really want in a decent one.

My RX7 GP is great, but then I stupidly tried on an AGV Corsa GP a few weeks ago, and it's even nicer. Especially in the bare carbon.

If it's the one I'm thinking of, it's priced at £599 at most places. They are just wondrously good though, I've popped one on my bonce and it was amazing.

Only just seen this thread but am hopefully my contribution will be a big help.
When I started riding I bought a £100 agv. Wasn't very nice but was a helmet to start with. 6 months ago I upgraded to the shoei xr1100. Wednesday night it stood up to what it's made for. I seriously don't think my agv would have done such a good job. Admittedly I was knocked out and have concussion but that's expected. Will let my next two pics finish this story.

Edited to add that I will definitely be buying another one

Glad you're alright and no disprespect meant.

...But unless you fancy repeating the exact accident you've no way of knowing how your AGV would have held up.

That's why anecdotal evidence isn't worth owt in these kind of discussions.

Indeed. All you can say is that the Shoei did its job.
