Diarrhea after a long ride ?

Suffered a bit of the trots last night after a 70 mile ride in the morning,
I feel fine now & that's after a vindaloo last night. I've heard tales of runners getting the trots after long runs, i have done a few 40's & 50 mile rides but i have not done a 70 miler until yesterday. Maybe just a coincidence, Anybody else suffered like this ?
I suppose you could say i've won the brown jersey.

I suffered a bit couple of years back and after some trial and error figured it was porridge that was doing it!

I had a couple of nights in hospital with food poisoning around a month ago & was really worried i'd be ill again, but i feel pretty much 100% now.
i am doing a Kentish 82 mile run in November & i'm a little concerned i may get another bout of botty trouble.
Never had diarrhoea after a cycle but I almost st myself today when my front wheel was caught in the edge of a manhole and I went over the bars, the bike then went passed me and landed some 15 feet in front of me. Thanks to the twt in the silver car who, in a desperate hurry to flee the scene almost ran over me and the bike...pratt
Very slight scuff on my right brifter, rear derailleur, left eyebrow bone a tad grazed, right knee a tad grazed and slightly swollen and a couple of other nicks and cuts. Considering everything I really got off lightly...

Do you eat a lot of gluten-containing foods?
I get stomach aches when I'm doing long runs or rides and I've been going gluten-free for the past 5 weeks or so as I read gluten can cause inflammation and stress within your dietry system when put under heavy training loads. I seems to be a lot better at the moment.
Best thing to do is experiment. Make a not of which foods you eat before heavy training and see their affect

After an Audax its not unusual for my solids to tend towards the liquid.
Gels and the powdered carb drinks have a bit of an effect on my system, even on shorter rides of under a hundred miles.
But even when fuelled by cafes and an English breakfast its definitely a thing.
I suspect it happens to some of us more than others, its also well known in marathon runners etc and anyone doing any endurance sport. The definition of endurance will vary from individual to individual of course

I used to get the same sometimes if I commuted every day, I just put it down to physics, if you think all the vibrations and disruption placed on your digestion system when cycling.
Gluten is interesting, my mum is a coeliac and cannot eat gluten (any wheat) and if she does will end up in hospital. BUT, for most it is one of the best sources of carbs and perfectly fine in the body. DR Karl the scientist who does a segment on 5live went into detail a few weeks ago and said gluten free diets are usually a fad gluten often provides the body what it needs, particularly carbs in relation to cycling. Somthing mad like 25% of Australians now don't eat gluten!
If I do a long ride and eat a few gels and energy drinks , by about 80 miles my stomach feels a bit dodgy, like it has had enough of the sugar. My system seems to prefer simple solid food, such as plain sandwiches rolls/pasta rather than carb laced sugar stuff
Could be a one off as well, I have picked up bacteria riding in heavy rain, came home and vomited lots!

Coffee and orange juice: I'm willing to bet that's your problem. Esp. if food poisoning knocked living hell out of your guts not that long ago. Orange Juice does that to me without going on an 80 miler. It's undoubtedly due to my crohns, but it's possible that due to your recent botty upset that your innards aren't 100%, and so are inflamed.
To cut a long brown story short, your body adds liquid to your food to aid digestion, and then removes it after the digestive process. If your bowels are inflamed such as in cases of IBD, crohns, OR if you've had an upset such as food poisoning, your body can't take the usual amount of water back out, and you therefore have the squits.
Hopefully it's nothing to worry about and it'll soon sort its self out.
