Following a recent thread I thought I'd take a look at a nearby area which is relatively low crime.

Looking at the stats the one that shocked me the most was that 79% of reported crime has "No Further Action" against it - that seems incredibly high to me.

Try to protect yourself.

Make your house safe and be vigilant when you are out on the streets.

Expect the unexpected and hopefully you be ok.

Relying on the Police?

You'd have to know what the reported crimes were in order to understand that statistic.

How many of them were where the person reporting just needed a crime number for insurance purposes, for example? (the sort of thing the police couldn't do anything about anyway)

More info here:

But regardless 5% of reported crime !

It must be soul destroying for the officers.

NO idea what the statistics are for the area I work in - prefer not to know - but the majority of crimes are undetected - typical crimes I deal with are generally thefts - heating oil, bikes, garden equipment, diesel etc etc - chances of catching offenders are slim and there are generally no lines of enquiry likely to lead to identifying the offenders - serious, less common crimes - robbery, house burglary, ram raids etc etc theres usually alot more evidence available, and more time to investigate. It's nice to live in an area where the current police priorities on a day-to-day basis are drunks in a park, and speeders in a village rather than knife crime, muggings, serious assaults etc
