With the evenings starting to draw in now I need to start looking for a new front light.

I want one without a battery pack, and I dont want to spend more than £50 really.

Cheers smile

I thought the PH choice was a eBaytastic Chinese Cree XLM thingy.

Yup. I have the T6 and its brilliant. Battery life is an hour and half which is fine for my commute. I now use a try bag for the battery as the strap broke after about two weeks.

For the money, its great value. The latest Cateyes are pretty good too, but they are double the price and then some.

I need a new battery pack for my Chinese lamps - over the summer it's stopped holding a charge.

Anyone know a decent supplier of 18650 batteries or is it cheaper just to buy a new light set?

I use one of these, a Cateye Nano Shot Plus EL-625RC:-

It is bright and can be used in full mode on unlit roads in full darkness with confidence.
The battery is lasting over an hour on full beam which is OK and lasts much longer on half power so I've learnt to switch modes when riding where there are street lights.

A great feature though is the battery life indicator, especially if you, like me, are colour blind! Most lights use coloured signals to indicate the remaining charge - a problem when all red-green colours look the same! However, this one, the position of the charge lights are different so even the most colour blind can tell the residual life left in the light.

The mounting is very secure and the item feels well made and sturdy. The power/mode button is easily operated one handed even with thick winter gloves on.

Before I decided on this, I tried a high end Lezyene which wasn't that bright IMHO but the also the button was hard to operate and the charging plug didn't fir well. I also tried a Moon 600 which again, I thought could have been brighter.

I use the Cree £15 lights of ebay

Lasted a 4 months of daily winter abuse and lit pitch black lanes every night

Lasted the Dunwich Dynamo with ease

I left them on all night to test how long the battery would last, and they were still on after 7 hours ! The beam was still bright enough to light a unlit road

BUT! I bought two from different suppliers and there are marked differences , so not sure all are the same and how strict the quality control is , but mine have been ace

Interesting to hear about replacement batteries, I heard one guy modified an old laptop battery to power them!

I run two an put the batteries in a modified bottle in the cage on the bike: Job Jobbed

I commute with a Knog Blinder 3. It's not perfect but the form factor outweighs any niggles that I have with it.

Me too, also added something similar to this to them, far better solution to the elastic bands

And one of these

Worked well on my commute, especially down the nsl unlit sections.
