Doing Imola trackday next week - v excited !
Understand Pirelli are offering trackday support. Has anyone ever tried putting trofeo / trofeo r / slicks on a V12V on a trackday ? Impressions ?
Also, any experience of Pirelli trackday support ? DO you think they will offer corsas on the day - it's a shame as my fronts are relatively close to needing replacing but the rears were replaced not that many miles ago so if I changed completely, I'm not sure how I'd get my rears home and I wouldn't want to abandon them !
So I'm thinking of buying track tyres on the day and then driving like a bat out of hell all day to get best use out fo something I may well have to leave behind .....

I purchased Trofeo R's for TeaSpn, using on V12 lightweight wheels. I use them for the first time on the 16th September at Franchorchamp Spa with the AM On-Track Day. I have driven them on the road for 200 miles and can confirm they are significantly better than normal tyres. You have to manage the tyre pressures very closely, they have to be set up low, maybe around 25psi. The heat to wear relationship is very important. I have purchase a digital temperature reader for use at the track for monitoring heat in the tyres.
Lastly, storage of the tyres is important, the rubber needs to be kept above 5 degrees C otherwise they will crack due to the composite of the rubber mix. Store on the sides too, so they do not gain flat spots on the tyres. I have not figured where i am going to store them this winter (maybe in the house, my wife will love that
)

what did you put on the fronts as IIRC standard fit on V12V is 255 but trofeo are only offered in 245 or 265 ?
Also, my big problem as I briefly mentioned is if I buy them, not sure what I then do if there is life left at the end of the trackday (which I hope there will be) about getting them home from Italy.......

Have you tried to get a quote for delivery? It might be cheaper than you expect.www.shiply.com
After a epic day at Spa with AML On-Track day with my Pirelli Trofeo R Track day tyres, I can report that they are really excellent. Started out with 28psi on fronts, 29psi on rears for first three laps to warm them up. Then checked tyre temperatures with digital thermal temperature gauge I purchased off the web; 48 degrees C both fronts and rears, pressure check, both front and rear were now a couple of degrees out from normal tyre pressures for my car.
Completed another session on the track, the tyres started to get better and better, the feeling was very very stable and gave me great road feeling back to me... Back in for more temperature/pressure checks, temperatures vary across each tyre now, the middle and inside of rears having greater temperature than the outside between 56 - 62 degrees C, front hotter at 62 - 66, adjusted the tyre pressures again. AML technicians advised me to lower my pressures to 30psi fronts and 31psi for rears, this is what they used for the 177's on similar tyres. This was my setting for the rest of the day. Wonderful tyres!!!
Other notable feedback, no black tyre bits splatting up the side of my bodywork, nice added benefit when cleaning the car afterwards.
Tyre wear was unbelievably minimal, I recon around 0.5mm used from original 5.0mm.
Allowed tyres to cool down gently once removed from my car in the pit enclosure at he track, AML kept them horizontal and off the cold floor surface for equally temperature reduction. They had a great (rotational molded) plastic horizontal wheel dolly, to place my wheels on for transport back to the UK. The tyres sitting on on each other without spacing which was the only negative.
My rating of Trofeo R's: 10/10

Who has some experience of storing track wheels so that I don't get uneven flat spots. I found this which makes total sense:

I have also found these tyre storage trees which look perfect but their maximum wheel width for 4 wheels is 225mm wide each, I have V12V 11J rears at plus 325mm wide; it does not seem sensible to purchase two trees, a bad use of space...

All the race teams will store wheels/tyres stacked on their sides.
Storing them upright won't cause any flat spots as long as they hold pressure.
However, you can't stack them and they are liable to roll about if you do.
The worst stuff for tyres are chemicals and strong sunlight.
Putting you wheels in bags and stacking them in the garage will keep them well.

Noted with tyre pressure the vertical stored wheels should not get flat spots.
