Long arm wall light?
Discussion
Here's something for the PH massive - I can't figure out a Google search that will return me something like this.
I'm looking for an elegant light fitting for a dining room that is wall mounted, but reaches out about 1m50 into the room. I guess it would have to be a lightweight steel rod sort of structure, to support a simple light fitting (ie. halogen or similar), rather than a big heavy light shade. Something like:
The support doesn't have to be dead straight, but the idea would be to fix a couple of these to a wall to light over a dining table. This is instead of the pair of tensioned cables style fittings that can be used to mount lights over open spaces. Basically, the ceiling is a long way away and I don't fancy running cables up to it even if there was a light fitting that looked good on a 3m cable.
Any ideas, suggestions?

I doubt you'll get anything elegant that can work at the distance. Even with a very slim stem and lightweight end fitting, the resultant torque applied to the mounting point would be quite great and unlikely be robust.
A German company called Steng do something that is what you describe but 1M50 would be too long for a wall mount solution. Look at page 122 of this brochure

Have you considered using LED spotlights with a narrow focused beam? They could be discreetly mounted several metres away but directed to point at the table.
Alternatively, the best google result I found was using the term "long swing arm wall lamp"
Downside to this will be for those sitting at the far side of the table as they will likely have line of sight to the light source. Those sitting with their backs to the wall may cast shadows. I guess it all depends on the angle of attackAlternatively, the best google result I found was using the term "long swing arm wall lamp"
If you like a slightly industrial look try a wall-mounted photographic light support:
