Is the Chimaera notorious for having a heavy clutch?

I recently bought a replacement from http://www.thetvrshop.com and was about have it fitted when someone suggested to me that the clutch in this car is always very heavy.

Is there any truth in that?

Mine was heavy but also spins a bit when I boot it in 4th gear, so getting it changed. Can't comment on if they're all heavy as I've only driven mine, but if you floor it in 4th on a slight incline that should give an idea if its worn.

Mine is heavy too. Apparently a guy on here (engineer419 or something) does a mod to alleviate it.
Someone will be along shortly to say exactly what it is...

i do indeed have a solution to the heavy clutch but it is worth checking that there is no fault with the existing setup they are not light as in modern euroboxes due to the 1950s design and large amounts of torque and bhp to transmit ring me on 07765596575 for a chat

I wouldn't say the clutch is heavy. It's not exactly light like many modern cars, but not what I'd call heavy.

I have John's mod, the prototype, on my car.
If anyone needs a lighter clutch (i do thanks to arthritis in my left hoof) and wants to try before they buy, email me.

Whilst on about clutches (and not to hijack thread) is the original setup pedal travel easily adjusted? Mine bites after what feels like very little travel.

I have a genuine Power supplied 500 clutch in my 4.6 and it is quite light IMHO.

Hi,

My solution was to buy a Clutch Kit (genuine AP for Rover 3500)from John Eales, then move the Clutch MASTER CYLINDER pivot point on the Clutch Pedal to a higher location plus extend the length of the Clutch and Brake Pedals with adaptor brackets.

A long winded job, but worth all the Trial & Error.
