This warning light came on and went off a couple of times on my B7 A4 2.0Tq today, also one of my brake lights wasn't working. Does this suggest the brake pedal switch and is it a PITA to change ?

It suggests brake pedal switch fault to me. It's quite straightforward to replace, be sure that you get the new one correctly positioned and locked in on its bayonet fitting at the first attempt - I read some stories on the web which said if you don't get it right first time the new switch will have to be replaced, whether that's correct or not I don't know.

eta Cost of part from Audi was under £20.

Yes I read something similar, think I'll check the price of the part at the stealers. years ago I had to change a clutch cable on my RS2000, if it's as much of a pig to change the switch I'll pay someone to do it.
