Noob question:

Anyone know the factory product/primer that is used as the layer underneath the paint (the lumpy stuff)?

The chipped section feels kinda rubbery:

Thanks

It may well be some form of rubbery plastic, it certainly is on some Mercs, and a right pig to remove. And I would say impossible for a DIYer to reapply.

However if you want to replace some of it, say you replaced a panel and you need to apply it, you can purchase stoneguard black which is bitumen based but overpaintable.

I have often used a Wurth product but you can also get it in rattle cans.

I think I might give it a go. Won't strip the entire lip, just the chipped area.

Thanks
