And what about the £45k he spent on a bottling machine that was 7 months late and did not work when it did arrive ? Surely you would have taken the supplier to court instantly ? Seemed a bit odd to me.
I agree, can't believe he paid it all up front and where was the company based on a housing estate? Looked like it when he visited. farbbm said:

Both points crossed my mind at the time too. Very odd. Maybe the bloke hadn't had a contract? It is pretty fundamental but he seemed rather naive all round, despite his previous highly paid job. The programme seemed to hinge around stopping him spending money, then miraculously went on to say how wonderful it was when he bought his 2nd bottling plant, and got some people in to re-brand the product. Quite why they didn't just contract out the bottling to a third party (maybe another mini brewery with their own under-utilised plant?) I dunno.

surely you spend £45K on a piece of machinery, someone would come along to install and set it up for you.
I thought that as well. Also, he said he'd bought stuff, vessels etc, off ebay, so he was happy to buy used equipment. So why not buy a small second hand bottling machine to start with and then you can always buy a bigger and better one if demand increases ?
He claimed he had a high paid job in pharmaceuticals sales ( he used another term but I'm sure it was sales ) so that's why it's odd he was so stupid when it came to running a business etc. And he had his wife looking after the finances but she said she did not really understand what she was looking at.
I often wonder how on earth there are any businesses left trading in the UK, let alone profitable ones. Dad looks like the ex-army type who gets things sorted by bluster, and inherited it all from his dad. Whereas I suspect daughter has an eye on marrying another Tim Nice But Dim and getting an allowance from dad, in return for giggling and fluttering her eyelashes again. Son just seems to like driving around in the Disco and saying how wealthy he is. Meanwhile dad is happy to stand by and do nothing.
What they need is to ship the daughter off to uni (I'm sure that somewhere will take her on £9k a year, it bypasses a multitude of problems) and with the money they save from that, get in a manager with real marketing skills who knows how to sell a sausage, and how to cut through the bullst from the son.
