I don't even recognize the manufacturer logo. I'm from the states so I was hoping someone here would know. Thanks in advance

Thanks for the quick response.

God, I can't even remember the last time I saw a merkur. I probably never have actually

Yep, the US version of this, aka Sierra

There was a fancy version too, the Sierra Cosworth

It seems to be that 2door 4wd cars had that extra bar in the rear window, and the 2wd (rear) had the nicer looking one piece rear window.

You know you are getting old when people say they haven't seen a Sierra before...

The XR4 had a bespoke bodyshell with the extra side windows. The Cosworth used the same two-door hatchback body as the standard cars.

I thought this tread had Parrot written all over it, so back in the 80's you could buy euro spec Fords in the US, but Ford didn't sell them, how odd.

That brings back memories - Stansted Airport 1983, I was there (along with about 200,000 other people).

You mean they added that horrible bar on purpose?!

Sorry, going slightly OT here, but where did the 'XR' nomenclature actually come from?

I know of the regular XR2 - XR4 models, and also of an XR5 that I think was in Oz, but were there any more? Take it there wasn't an XR1

And yes, always wondered where that split window between the B- and C-pillar came from on the XR4i too

There was an XR-6: Australian Falcon.

I think the 'XR' nomenclature originated in OZ as well.
(Stands to be corrected)

I can remember going to Tildesley Ford in Shifnal the day the Sierra was released with my Dad in his Cortina. He was speechless at the appearance of the Sierra.

There was an XR8 for South Africa, too, with a 5.0 litre V8.

Er.. it's not really "our" Pinto is it - since it originates in the Ford Pinto ....
