Roof mounted DAB aerial - which one?
Discussion
I have a carp signal with the antenna from the tuner so need to get something mounted externally
whilst id like a 5 element jobby for the ultimate signal strength, I don't fancy a 4 foot thing hanging from the top of the house
would a an Omni or dipole be okay and should it have a balun or not? im not that bothered about getting an fm signal but wouldn't it to be degraded hugely if im using the dab aerial

Not much help but about 15 years ago I had scaffolding up to do windows, guttering, weatherboards etc and had it extended to one of the chimney stacks so I could get a TV/tuner DAB-ready aerial put up... (very advanced for those days). I ran a long cable through the house, up three stories and out under a tile for the installer. The aerial was put up with a signal booster/splitter and I sourced a tuner, wanting to make sure that it would work well before the scaffolding came down. However the plug the electrician had fitted wasn't compatible with the tuner so as a stop-gap until I could get the right plug I attached the straight slender wire aerial which came with the tuner; it was about 1.5m long and I trapped it between the wall and the bottom of a picture which was hanging above the tuner. Result - perfect reception - not bettered by plugging in the expensive chimneytop aerial when I got the right plug! Since then the birds have broken off some of the aerial tines without any obvious deleterious effects on either the radio or TV signal.
You may find that a fancy aerial doesn't give much better results than extending or relocating (if possible) a simple antenna inside the house.

thanks for the intel chaps
hear you re the internal vs external. given we are at the bottom of a valley I really need the height to get a stable signal. the idea would be too have the face plate close to where the tuner will be so the run from the faceplate to the tuner would be less than 1m and the external run would be fairly discreet and the aerial mounted close to the sat dish.. that's the plan anyways
