NHS dentist - whats the score?
Discussion
At the age of 40 I've been very teeth lucky and never needed more than check ups which I did privately.....but now my guy says i need 2 fillings and is talking hundreds for each one. But it seems none of the places round here take NHS people???
Am i supposed to be able to get one? or do I go to some remote corner of eastern europe for a bargain?

If there really isn't anywhere local to you, then start ringing around. You know what you need doing, so it's a matter of finding the right price. A couple of fillings doesn't sound like it would be worth going abroad for.

The link is for NHS dentists - see if there are any space near (and that's a piece of string question) you, and register there. Tada! Fees reduced to NHS charges.
IANAD, and I'm sure it's all very expensive, but a grand sounds like a lot for fillings. If you know what work is required, then a quick ring aorund to say "I need X, Y & Z doing, how much would that be?" really can't hurt. You might find that your guy is quite cheap for a complex piece of work, or you might find that actually, not having the optional diamond caps, and "happy ending" means that you are better off going elsewhere.
Private dentistry doesn't mean you have to use the same bloke

Guess it depends where you live. The wife signed up with a local dentist no problem but when I went to do so they said they couldn't take me on there and then as they were recruiting an additional dentist to do some NHS work but were keen to get me on board in future. As I'd left it until the last minute (abscess under a rotten tooth) I had to go the the local drop in / emergency dentist where they kindly extracted it for me
I'm now on the books of the NHS dentist, he fixed up a filing I'd lost some time ago and has me in for regular check ups (6/9 months). Minimal cost and a good service so I'm happy

Are we talking full on root fillings because if so, i'd say that £1k for 2 sounds about right.
Normal fillings won't be that much privately - about £300 each IIRC.
I dont think they are root fillings? They were just talking about white ones being 850 eachNormal fillings won't be that much privately - about £300 each IIRC.
Maybe inlays/Cerec.
