I hear / read more details and official launch may be tomorrow?

Has anyone brought a build slot or have more details on specs etc?

Yes, the launch is at midnight tonight I believe. Pictures have leaked already, though:

I hope that's not a real picture, it seems that LR products are morphing into 1 style which will be a real shame.

It is!

Ive just watched the video on the LR website, front looks quite evoque-ey and rear similar to new RR sport, a good looking car IMO but Im not seeing how the new discovery range is distinct from the range rovers? I can see this car hurting sales of the evoque.

Not officially. However my local LR dealer were quite happy to take a refundable deposit.

They seem to think they will have a demo Sport in December.

Launch pics look good, JLR can do little wrong imb atm

+1.

Seems there is lots of confusion over whether the 'Sport' is a new Evoque or new Discovery....

No confusion at all. It's the replacement for the Freelander and it looks great. Prices will start under the Evoque. Disco replacement follows end of next year.

Agree about what it is (and like it) but not sure if the FF Disco will be here in late 2015 From what I have heard it is more likely in late 2016. Hard to say mind, I guess we need to look for mules running round then it's a year away!

I went into the LR website and 'built my own' to see the sort of spec I can expect, the Discovery Sport has a starting price of £32,395 which compares to £27,765 for a base FL2 SE TD4 manual (which is likely to be less than list with discounts).

What does that £4,630 extra get me?

2 rear seats it seems, and some exterior design which if I'm being harsh is lazy in that it apes the Evoque and RR Sport a little.

Same drivetrain as the FL2, based on the same chassis, still have to pay extra for leather/fog lights/heated seats/nav etc, some switchgear such as indicator stalks looks familiar.

Have Land Rover just become the masters of clever marketing, will the public pay any price for anything they release?

I think it looks lovely, but take away the exterior looks and look underneath and I think that until the new engines come along it doesn't look like an appealing package.

As a Discovery 4 owner, I like the look of this as I don't think it's too bling and that bodes well for the Disco 4 replacement (I think).

It would be interesting to see the sales figures for the Evoke and the RRS as I would imagine that this new Discovery Sport could canibalise sales from both without necessarily bringing in many new customers to the brand...

Indeed, and will they lose customers (or will the demographic just change as they attract others from other marques?), as due to the leap in price for the entry level model compared to the outgoing FL2, and the end of production of the Defender, the lowest price to get into ownership of a Land Rover has just jumped significantly.

Just done some man maths on this and am quite surprised at the price hike over the FL2. LR is definitely moving the brand too far upmarket. The bubble is being stretched a bit and may go bang for them in the not too distant future looking
At this months sharp drop in Disco4 prices.

Model for model, SE=SE +12% & Metropolis=HSE Lux +22% shocking increase in anyone's book.

Other disappointing thing as it wears the Disco badge it's off road bits; approach, ramp and departure angles are worse than the FL2? As is the turning circle. Yes it can wade an extra 100mm and the obstacle clearances are all of 2mm better. It really seems this should live under the RR family tree not a Disco one?

That said it does look OK as a family estate to keep on the black stuff, which is all I'd use it for, but until they revise the engine there's no way I would consider one at that price.

I got an email from JLRNA last night that said US prices will start at $37,995, that's $4k less than the Evoque and on par with the LR2 (Freelander).
