I have a dark tinted visor (legal where I live) but still get blinded by glare and find it a pain having to carry two visors on a fully loaded bike for when it gets dark. I used to ware my sunglasses but my new helmet is a tighter fit so I can't get the arms down the side of my head so I'm wondering if anyone makes a polarised tinted pinlock to go on my helmet.

Any one know if such things exist?

Pinlock make a light reactive insert.. wouldn't say it polarised though.

Also more details please OP... helmet make/model? Am I correct that you wish to use a clear visor with the pinlock reducing glare and that you also wish to use the same visor in low light/dark conditions?

I use one on my Shoei XR1100 clear visor. All weathers all light conditions. Bright sun it takes the edge off compared to clear but doesn't go as dark I would like. More like light smoke at most.

My new helmet's an HJC, one of their more expensive ones. Really happy with the helmet apart from it fitting so well I can't squeeze my old specs down the side of me fat head. Last year we went touring with my old helmet and I used to ride with the visor up or off and my glasses on when the roads were quieter.

Bell do a polarised auto tint visor for their helmets....popular in the US but never quite as dark as a dark race visor

I have a Shark helmet with sun visor and it really is great, I cant imagine buying a helmet without one these days. Its just convenient. I do wear prescription glasses that tint, but of course they dont work well behind other glass i.e. in a car or with a visor in front...

Another option would be to wear two tinted monacles.

What did you find was a problem with it, just not dark enough or something else?

I bought a genuine Shoei reactive pinlock for my XSpirit helmet, and whilst it does get reasonably dark it doesn't do the "pinlock" thing very well at all. On cold mornings I get so much condensation on the inside that I can't see a bloody thing. It doesn't mist up as such, but you get a heavy layer of moisture that you just can't see clearly through. The seal between the visor and pinlock is fine and I don't get any moisture in-between the two parts, just on the surface that's that actually exposed. Tried cleaning it according to the instructions and it made no difference at all. My standard (Shoei) clear pinlock works perfectly, so I have come to the same conclusion as you.

I have the Shoei reactive pinlock and it works fine. I thought it didn't darken terribly much until I took the helmet off in bright sunlight and looked at it from the outside! Turns out it's fine, although I am using it with a light tint visor too.

coolI say, what a jolly good ideacool

I've been faffing in the garage. I have taken one of my old but well loved pair of polarised glasses and broken the arms off them, they kept on snapping any way and wer more super glue than glasses. I've cut some copper tube up and made thin strips that just sit on my ears and soldered them onto the old hinge. I then covered them in heat shrink and bent them to fit just nice. I can now use my favorite glasses with my helmet on. I'll post a picture of them when I can figure out how to get photos off my phone.

It's more the polarised rather than the tine I'm after. My tinted visor is a pain in low sun, especially going into wooded areas.

I found polarised sunglasses make looking through the plastic of the visor a bit psychedelic. If you look through two layers of plastic (visor+screen) through polarised lenses, you get rainbows. Like this: http://roadkinguk.wordpress.com/2010/05/11/about-p...

Particularly annoying on a big scooter screen for some reason.
