We shall be moving house in the next few months and we really need to have a good clear out before then.

Between the wife and myself, we have about 50 albums mainly from the 1970's. We have not had a record player for at least 20 years, so they are just gathering dust in the cupboard.

They are not in A1 condition, because they were well used in their heyday!

What is the most lucrative way of getting rid? there are a few classics amongst them, The Beatles, George Harrison, Led Zep, etc.

Thanks

A list followed by a PH classified ad would be a good start. You may be able to get someone to take them as a job lot.

My drummer sold his collection to me for a bargain price. Of course I then had to buy a turntable, preamp and record cleaner to use them, rather negating the bargain aspect...

check http://www.discogs.com/ to see if you've actually got anything that's worth any money - if they aren't in good condition then it's less likely.

Seconded - Discogs.com is brilliant.

I listed my collection on there earlier this week and sold £200 worth within a day.

Seems to be a pretty vibrant marketplace.

Another decorative option, if the artwork is something you like would be something like this:

The Ikea one is just an example, and there are a few variations on the same theme like this..

One mans rubbish.......

50 (to me) is really nothing. That's one reasonable sized box. If you like them I'd keep them.

But yeah stick a list up.

If anyone is interested, my son in law put them on ebay individually a few months ago.

Some did well, some not so. For instance some of The Beatles did not go for as much as I thought they would, probably because they sold so many copies in the 60's!

The most lucrative of the lot was one I never even noticed! my wife's copy of Sea Shanties (High Tide album)

Just shows you what I know about old records smile

Normally its the ones which are less well known that shift for more as there are less in circulation. Unless you've got first or limited edition pressing of Beatles stuff it won;t shift for much.
45's are normally a good bet for £££

Am thinking of similar, seeing as all my music is now on multiple hard drives, seems a waste having all my records, CDs and DVDs stashed away in the garage, I haven't listened to a CD since I encountered an iPod.

A lot of stuff that people think of as classic tends to be worth very little, because as you say, there are millions left, and they've been re-issued in CD. The CDs are pretty obsolete now as well of course.
It's the obscure ones that can be worth something, particularly if they've never been re-issued.

That's one very early LP12. No use for singles at that vintage.

Had a clear out last year. Old tatty vinyl LPs went for literally beer money.
Binned tapes too! biggrin
