Hi All

Strange issue to report on my E60 M5

Had an oil change at 68000 miles - the dealer slightly over filled but nothing to worry about. The oil level on the dash was at 1.5L

After 600 miles, this dropped down to 1.1L as I would expect

However since then the level has stayed at 1.1 and I have done a further 2000 miles since - no change to oil level

I have reset with the car standing flat but still it shows 1.1L. I would expect the oil level to have fallen after another 200 miles?

I am worried I may have a faulty sensor.....of course lack of dipstick means I cannot check level

If the oil gets too low, will it sound an alarm, even if sensor for dash monitor is caput?

Thanks for your help

Simon

PS - engine is a brand new unit @ 66,000 miles

Mine will often go a couple of thousand miles without reporting any drop in oil level. I shouldn't be too concerned about this. I would be concerned about the dealer overfilling the car though!

The level it shows sometimes stays constant for a long time then drops suddenly, it's not linear. If you go out for a spirited drive (i.e. redlining it) after a lot of motorway usage you might find it drops quite a bit.

Anyway nothing to worry about, it will tell you when it needs oil at which point you should add 0.8-1.0L. Any more and you're overfilling it and any less the computer might not recognise.

As above I would be worried about a 0.5L overfill though!!

Mine used a litre per 1000 miles for the first few thousand miles and then semed to stop using it almost entirely.
