I bought loads of holidays through Teletext. Even when it was available on the web you could get better deals through the TV pages. I once got a 2 week florida holiday for 4 people, with villa and car included, for £1800!
Teletext holidays still exists and............it has FANTASTIC deals.

Just put it in google.

Better prices than Expedia.

I completely forgot about the Ceefax.

Pagers, do these still get used in the hospitals/nursing homes?
Still use a pager at work although it's linked solely to the data terminal in the ambulance.

RNLI crews are still called out by pager.

I'm 33 and have never used Telex
I'm 48 (until tomorrow) ditto.
Well I just turned 50 this year and used one for about 15 years when I started work. Whilst they wern't specific to my industry (shipping) they were quite common.

This was the baby!

I worked in shipping too. We had a telex machine which would print away, but our computer system allowed us to type outgoing telexes without going near the telex machine. So technically I don't really know how to use one! (This was in the early 90s).

Guy at work mid 20s has never driven a car with either a manual choke, wind up windows or without power steering.

With everyone's phone having clock facilities I say the bedside digital alarm clock will disappear. Not so handy if you wake up through the night though to just have a glance at the time without fumbling for the phone and pressing a button!

Proper spelling. In future it will all be text speak.

Answering a phone where you don't know who it is until you pick up the phone.

Calculators. Everyone's phone has one as do PCs and laptops.

Directory enquiries/Speaking clock. Much easier to find info on the internet.

I couldnt disagree more. There are so many channels for artists to be able to release their music, and so many channels for people to consume music, that the industry is more alive than it ever has been, despite what EMI, Syco etc might like you to think. Anyone can go to youtube, upload a few videos and get an audience of millions. In the past if the record company didnt like you that was that, now artists with reasonably niche music can get exposure and become much bigger and more mainstream. The fact that youtube is able to suggest new music is also great for the scene.

Its interesting, we were going over this the other night. Technology has moved so fast over the last 15 years that things a 25 year old remembers seem alien to a 15 year old. Floppy disks and dial-up internet were 2 things a 15 year old didnt know about!

I still write cheques quite regularly. I reckon that I'm probably in a minority though.

Are there plans to phase them out? I heard a rumour about that a while ago.

No they aren't being phased out.
There was a massive uproar about it as business depends on it, ( send cheque in post, go to bank, put cheque into account... all delays whilst waiting for slow customers to pay ! )

Two suppliers I buy from at work like them and I send my mother money by cheque. I write them occasionally for other things but not much.
I can't even sign my signature the same twice!

Being a powerfully built company director, I welcome cheques rather than cash.
It is, for many elderly customers, a trusted method of exchange. They do not trust the internet and have been told by 'Esther' and alike not to keep cash in the house.... quite rightly.

I wrote out my first cheque in over 10 years, on Friday.

Bloody DVLA, they would only accept, cheque, or postal order.
