This may be heresy but am thinking of adding a Porker to my limited collection! Anyone among the venerable collective owned a 944 s2 cab?
I realise that this Boschmobile is missing 4 cylinders but looks an interesting 4 pot which reputes to be the largest displacement produced!
Anyone here had one and can give a misguided TVR owner an unbiased review?

I'm taking cover!!! paperbag

Never owned one, but always liked it very much. boxedin
One of the few Porsches that does not look like a frog and engine on the right side as well.

Whether a real Tvr driver will be happy with one, I doubt it.

Now that can be a quick car to get the dander up but not quick enough for a TVR. see here..

My TVR verses three porkers a couple of months ago. features the 928 off the line and 911 turbo for the first lap, then fast forward to 10.35 for a few laps of the 928again, driven by the brother of BTCC fame max Chilton.

I had a 968CS for 3yrs, really wish I hadn't have sold it. I still look at the classifieds at them.

I could be tempted by a 944 Turbo though.

That 911 is quick, but I think he had enough after is went wibble about 1:12. Easy done. If I had foresight, then the original Turbos and 964's and 993's would have been a worthwhile investment. Check out the cost of a 930 Turbo! Good driving though.

Heresy indeed!

Your only hope of redemption is to get yourself a lovely TVR S Series.

I promise you will feel better for it.
It may even rescue your soul from the Dark Side wink

We shall all pray for you to discover true enlightenment.

Some 22 years ago before my run of TVR's I had a 944 Turbo . I would probably say that it was too good back in its day, it was so capable that it felt quite staid at anything resembling sensible road speeds. It held the road well, had reasonable performance and was comfortable, by comparison to the TVR's I would suggest it is more like an everyday car in that it didn't have that certain character.

I ran a 968 for about 6 months- in that time the ABS failed (Porche could not fix it as it not computer based- so no plug in diags), the thermostat stuck shut, the rear transaxle destroyed its diff bearings (that cost me a bloody fortune), the pop up headlights stayed stuck down on midwinter night, the glove box lid fell off and the rear tail gate came loose. It also had bricks where the suspension springs should have been- the ride shook your teeth out and the dashboard looked like someone had simply thrown the switch gear at it- it was truly the worse car Ive ever owned after I hankered for that badge on the bonnet. Never again.

Going back 10 years but I had a 1986 944 LUX but not the cabriolet.

Was selling it to buy my 1st TVR an S2 and was driving 150 miles to pick the S2 up in the 944 and my friend was driving the 944 back.

After doing the deal and about 10 miles later I was thinking what have I donesmile The 944 was just so much quieter and relaxed and refined in every way.

I had the 944 for 14 enjoyable months and only problem I had was the rear wheel bearing were making a lot of noise and needed fixing but sold the car to a friend who knew about the problem.

As said it's 10 years ago and that friend I sold it to still has it although it's not been used for a few years.

Took me awhile to realize that Porsche and TVR are just to different in so many ways to try and compare.

I'm on TVR number 3 now but only ever that one Porsche.. work that one out laugh

That's pretty unlucky although during my ownership the head went, the cams needed replacing (ouch) the clutch and flywheel were replaced too. I sold it because I had spent so much on it but it was so sorted I should have kept it and put up with the debt. The problem I had with it was I felt I had to drive everywhere flat out to live up to its excellent handling reputation. In reality you could only explore this on a track.

I used to love Porsche, esp early 911 but the prices are too high now hence why I turned to TVR when looking for a toy 2 years ago. Boxsters just don't do it for me and were too 'every' day for me.

The Chimaera just feels so much fun at any speed smile

As I wasn't drummed out of the regiment for suggesting such mutiny I thought it was time to come out from behind the barricade and report progress!

Having now tested a few S2 Cabs I realise the error of my ways with regard to open top motoring and IMO the Chim is unbeatable in terms of 'fun factor' for that wind in the hair (what's left of it) experience!

However, and this is the dilemma, I am planning a European road trip next year and I fear the Chim is going to suffer in the heat and take it out on me by boiling me alive in a queue of traffic!!! And I don't really want to push my luck on what will turn out to be a few thousand miles of motoring without a support group in tow (ie. a club tour with spare parts/tools in a van following everywhere!).

The sensible option, of course, would be to take the daily drive Euro box, but where's the fun in that! I don't require any more than 2 seats and think that aircon would be a must for the times when opening the sunroof?? and windows will not cut it, and the car mustn't cost more than 10k. So am thinking along the lines of a coupe of some description. Obviously the Pork option 944/968 is a consideration but can anyone suggest 'interesting' alternatives??

I eagerly await your response. earsbounce

KieS2 has an S2 cab in both TVR and Pork guises.

I wouldn't fret too much about a Euro trip in a TVR - http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a... - is one of the recent threads.

A thorough service - inc coolant flush and renewal - before hand and you should be fine. I think only one of the cars on S-Club Tour this year went home on a trailer - in fairness it was being maxed out on the Autobahn at the time.

Personally, I love the 944. Never owned one though. Would be a coupe version if I did add one. If I had bought my S before I bought my Tamora then I would most likely be a T350 owner.
