Hi

One of the rear struts on my 2003 CL500 has play in the bush at the bottom of strut.

Is it part of the strut or will it be available separately.

Thanks

Hi,

Have you a picture? Would be good to see for veracity. As you know misinformation re:ABC/struts and anything suspension related is one of the greater contributors to elevated blood pressure for S/SL/CL owners! smile

Also, have you had any red/white warning signs on the dash, or was the bush play found by diligent housekeeping?

In addition, have you had it long?

Hi

Not had it long about 2 month.

Had it up on a ramp & it needs a couple of ball joints on the front and there is play in the bush at the bottom of the rear strut.

No warning lights.

If I get time tomorrow I will take a photo.

Thanks

Oof! Hope it's not got the same configuration as the SL where the balljoints are integral to the strut. Don't worry - they're only £1260. Each. Plus VAT. Plus fitting.

My mate had to replace the strut on his SL55 because off the ball joint - painful! frown

Hope its not the same setup on my S55 AMG! :|

Isn't there a company in Liverpool that can refurb the ball-joint by injecting a special resin into it?

Yes there is (as long as they aren't too far gone).

Here's the write-up I did on it....

SL's have a ball joint on the bottom of the front strut, CL don't luckily ( one less thing to go wrong).

Mine is the rear strut its more of a bush than a ball joint.

Thanks

The CL and SL, with ABC have front struts with the ball joint that is part of the arm sometimes called a spring seat or spring control arm etc, the joint pin goes into the abc strut and is held only with an allen key stud which seizes, hence the need for a new strut. I have one such stuck assembly as a spare, intending to remove the retainer but never bothered. The rear strut has a removable bush and a tool number 202 589 00 43 00 to do it if you need it.

Sorry, no, it will be on the dealer epc sure enough, as if the tool for it is shown, they are bound to find the bush easily
