Has anyone got one? Where is it? We have just bought our first static and was wondering if anyone has any tips for newbies.

Don't let it out cheap to friends, family and colleagues. They will be the winners getting cheap breaks on behalf of your investment.

Only tip I can offer is check the floor! My mrs was a genuine 100% Roma gypsy when I met her, she's had 30x12 and 30x10 statics, I'd be happy to pass on any questions as she's obviously well acquainted!

A good point. When the wife told her work colleagues about it the first question they asked was about us renting it out. I don't think they understand that you are paying ground rent to site it. They think you will let them use it free of charge. We decided that we will not let anyone use it other than my daughters. That way no one gets upset if we say no or ask for payment.

We owned 2 statics over 10 years until about 8 years ago, one in North Wales before we moved here and one in Skegness, fortunately we had no real issues over the years other than general maintenance and repair.

I've had a few over the years. My present one is at Loch Earn, Perthsire and I use it every weekend.

Make sure you drain it properly if the site it's on closes for the winter.

We will be going down at the end of the month, but I think the site owner will winterise it and set it up in the spring for a small fee. probably will do that until |I am sure of what I am doing

Pay £40,000 for one, it will be worth next to nothing within fifteen years, (In most cases), when you factor in site rent, not a cheap option, plus you are tied to going back to the same area most weekends.

Those are the downsides, but they are nice if you like to get away from the daily grind, but personally, I prefer a motorhome, where at least you can go where the fancy takes you, plus depreciation is not so much a factor, prices hold up very well.

I think a nice static in good condition, around 7/8k would make more sense, although if you can afford it, new is obviously better.

You are better off buying a tourer and then buying a season pitch.

I tried that once but lack of space was my biggest problem.

Three kids and three dogs in a tourer wasn't ideal.

It was a biggish twin axle but still a lot smaller than the static.

Check the site contracts carefully.

Some will have a maximum age for vans on the site. Some will only allow you to sell through them at their commission rate.

We (or I) prefer tourers for flexibility...
